Gionee has a special focus on research and development and invested over $160 million. Gionee has a current annual production capacity of 40 million units . Gionee’s exports more than one million units per month catering to well established brands overseas as an ODM.
Gionee will be launching its entire range — from feature phones to smart phones with a special focus on the smart phones. Gionee has tied up 4 leading import and distribution and import partners including based out of Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kolkata & Bangaluru.
To support the India Operations Gionee has already set up an office in New Delhi and is in the process of building the core team. The company works with MediaTek and Qualcomm.
Gionee has presence in the Middle East, Northern Africa, Vietnam, Taiwan, Myanmar and Thailand. Gionee is expected to launch it's first set of smartphone lineups by the end of Feb 2013
The company has also readied its first smartphone called Dream D1 which will come with super amoled plus display as the Samsung Galaxy SIII. Which is just a part of a number of smartphones and feature phones that the company has planned for the Indian market in the following months,
The Gionee Dream D1 smartphone will comes with a 4.65 inch HD display, build using the super amoled plus technology. It's the same display technology that makes the Samsung Galaxy SIII so popular, along with that the device will be powered by a 1.3 GHz quad core CPU based on ARM cortex A7 architecture. There will be 1 GB of ram to make things fluid and smooth and along with that there will be a 4 GB of onboard storage that can be expanded up to another 32 GB with the use of a micro SD card.
Gionee Dream D1 will feature an 8 megapixel rear camera capable of recording 720p videos and a 1 megapixel front facing camera for video calling and conferencing. The Gionee Dream D1 will be based on Google android's latest android Jelly Bean Operating system.
The Gionee Dream D1 is slated for a launch towards the end of February this year, although the price of the device has not been confirmed but the device is likely to be priced between 10-12k. Btw, none of the smartphones under 15k has the super amoled plus touchscreen yet.
