yes thats what i meant when i said not much info abt channels.well news is just 1 day old. so and we know how slow MTNL is,they declare the news and then launch really after abt a week.

no idea.even i am waiting for official declaration from MTNL or IOL.

I think the silence has got something to do with the IPTV being apparently illegal under the Cable Televisions Networks (Regulations) Act.However ridiculous may that sound , mtnl can't go ahead with their plans until they clear this legal hurdle.

well.. mtnl = government.it will take time but govt will make it legal.and why not? its latest technology... some or other day they willhave to make it legal

My friend who happended to switch over CAS says the quality of picture and sound is very good almost dvd....So 99% i am going for cas .... cas= R.s 2000 installation for set top boxUsing Iptv seems to be like Yeda ban kar peda khana...switch on router + switch on stb then watch tv ..It has only chance if MTNL sell it at Proper price. What u guys say ain't cas seems to be better than Iptv?

Play the waiting game now. In Jan when CAS would be implemented then people would be forced to switch either to CAS/DTH/IPTV etc.And then there would be loads of offerings from all operators to make customers as Cable TV will no longer exist. So have patience and just wait and watch! 🙂

CAS is nothing but same cable system but with STB, so cable ops can no more pay less tax.CAS also gives consumers the ability to pay only for channels they watch. And Star, Zee, Sony etc. know exact number of viewers. Currently most cable ops pay them for 1000 subscribers whereas there may be say 3000 subscribers really. So as a whole pocket huge amount of money. So basically you still stay with same cable op and still face their dadagiris and misbehaviours. Though hopefully it would less now because of competition but once you pay for STB, whatever you do, you are still under their control. If star, zee, sony dont give them good commission they can still blackout channels at their will. Also Tata Sky / mtnl being big companies would keep upgrading STBs for more services. With cable ops you depend completely on them to upgrade it. If cable op is technicallysound you might get better technologies but otherwise most of cable ops being smallcan not keep investing on technology.

It's a lot more than that. With options like DTH and iptv at our disposal we are not at the mercy of these people anymore. The biggest plus point is that CAS will force the local cable operators to turn digital if they have to survive in the market. They will no longer will be able to get away with providing poor service. For poor transmission they will lose considerable revenue for respective channels.

And Star, Zee, Sony etc. know exact number of viewers. Currently most cable ops pay them for 1000 subscribers whereas there may be say 3000 subscribers really. So as a whole pocket huge amount of money.

That won't be the case in the post CAS scenario. This so called rental STB scheme is a masterstroke from the government. Cable ops will have to invest huge sums of money in upgrading their equipments and service and for buying STBs. So if people are not satisfied with the service they can turn to dth or iptv leaving the poor operator with the stbs and a lot of debt. Losing customers can really push these operators towards bankruptcy and selling their businesses to the biggies like zee , sony ,hathway , siticable etc. They simply have to deliver coz they have no other choice.

Also Tata Sky / mtnl being big companies would keep upgrading STBs for more services.
With cable ops you depend completely on them to upgrade it. If cable op is technically

Like i said earlier , all the small operators are a part of the big organizations like hathway, zee , siticable etc. If they struggle to provide quality services then they will be forced to sell their businesses to the big players due to a large amont of debt. And these players have a lot of money so u don't have to worry about not getting the latest services. 🙄

well when VSNL brought over 7star.. they gave them contract of 3yrs...becauseit wont be easy for it to start its local office immediately.sameway.. when big ops buy small ops they will give back contract to them.so in short consumer i.e. we, ourself will have to deal with same ppl whomwe (well ok, atleasr majority of us) always wished to get rid off. LOL
