Today I applied for a new Reliance prepaid SIM. I am planning to subscribe to their 3G data plans. On their website there is two type of packages

1. Broadband on Mobile Phone / Phone-as-a-modem (MobileNet plans)
2. Broadband on USB Data Cards (Data only Plans)

Ref : Reliance 3G Plans & Pricing

I wanted to know whether there are any difference between those two plans. Can a prepaid Reliance SIM subscriber avail both of the plans ?

1) For 3G access from phones 2) For 3G access from Usb dongles\Datacards If you are going to use the sim on the phone. Go for the 1st one or 2nd if you 're going to use on datacard *If you try to use the sim on datacard that you bought for phone access. Thank you for your quick clarification and it also makes sense ! But while browsing Reliance 3G FAQs , Mobile internet section, I came across this FAQ
------------------------------------------------------

>Can I use the data card SIM to make calls in a mobile phone?

Yes. But depends if the feature is available on the dongle you are using.

--------------------------------------------------------

If your reply is indeed right , do we have to specifically ask for SIM specifically for data card. I already own an unlocked dongle. Can we migrate our phone SIM to dongle SIM by contacting customer care ?

If you activate mobile broadband, you will be able to access that SIM everywhere including data card. But if you activate a SIM for data card, it will work with all data cards and even on mobile but there won't be any voice services.

Doesn't matter what you activate, you can still make voice calls. Ive done so, quite a few times and calls work without an issue!

Operators don't sell sim for datacards seperately. They sell it as a bundle. If you already have an active sim. Test it on your unlocked datacard by doing any minimum data plan voucher for phone & see if it works.

Most of the private operators have seperate 3G plans for dongle & phone and they restrict vice versa using by the IMEI no. I personally have tested it on IDEA, Vodafone etc.

Only BSNL have no such restriction ...

Btw, with the unlocked datacard & proper latest dashboard. You can even make video calls too ...

Sorry but i disagree on vodafone...i've used many a times using a normal 3G plan of phone on Datacard...

I myself have also tested Airtel and Vodafone phone SIM in dongle (Delhi-NCR region). They seems to work fine. But I am unsure about Reliance. Vodafone doesnt seem to have separate data card use plan also.

I can vouch for reliance Delhi.

So , x720 .... as you seems to have used Reliance 3G SIM in Delhi-NCR region .. I am considering your answer as final i.e. there is nothing as such separate SIM for mobile and datacard. Thanks to others also for contributing to this thread.

P.S. : My reliance SIM is going to be activated soon and I will also share my experience and final conclusion regarding this matter with others.

Vodafone is the 1st company to introduce separate 3G plan for Mobile Internet and Mobile broadband. And undoubtedly it's an absurd idea.

Reliance 3G plans are not so good even the speed is so slow , if you are recharging it's net pack then don't expect good speed in your mobile. you can choose first plan for mobile purpose and second one for data cards.
