A down-to-earth account of the lives of both illustrious and ordinary Romans set in the last days of the Roman Republic.

One thing that bothered me... Caesar did not say Et tu, Brute when he dies 🙁

Me too. They have showed quite a lot of things differently. They skipped the soothsayer's part, Brutus was supposed to be married to Portia, etc.

no idea about that part of the story. i hope this series is somewhat accurate because this is what i know about Caesar now 😀 i get that the two primary character on the show are largely fictitious.also, from what i read, Et tu, Brute is based on Shakespeare version of his story and there is no evidence of him actually saying anything like that 😀

Both the friends character are totally fictitious.Really loved this show. It was Fantabulous.Marc anthony's character was brilliantly played

i love the character of the public service announcer 😀 even though he gets what 5 minutes of screen-time during the entire series? 😀wikipedia states a movie was under development... any idea what happened to it? :\

Oh the Fatso with the straight palm declaration, Lol. so many years ago i had watched, still the characters are etched in the memory.

One of my all time fav tv shows.

There is no concrete evidence that showed Caesar saying "et tu Brute!" A lot of what we see is from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar.

The series ends when Augustus celebrates his Triumph and is made supreme ruler of Rome Probable date is about 30BC. A BBC series I Claudius takes place after 20 years from the events in Rome S02, but it was made in the late 70s.

of course. brutus and the gang probably did not bother to record what caesar said while dying 😀 he was not exactly mahatma gandhi 🙂

Not quite. The act of stabbing Caesar may have been perceived as brutal but Brutus and his cohorts thought what they had done was for the good of the republic and hence it was an honourable act. There is an account of events which says that Both Marc Anthony and Brutus asked for forgiveness from the people of Rome gathered outside the senate. Ofc people of Rome didnot buy this honour killing concept so Brutus and his pals were forced to flee Italy. Marc Anthony did try to get them pardoned since he was the consul at the time.

This ofc led to a lot of friction between Marcus Antonius and Octavian, since the later was the legal heir to Gaius Julius Caesar.

well i personally did not see caesar as an evil man based on the story of the show! he was nice to everyone in rome :\

I agree but his political opponents in the senate disagreed.

well they were hungry for power and of course they thought caesar was killing the republic and turning rome into a dictatorship which i guess he was... i do not know much about the history of rome so hard to say whether it worked out well for them or not 😀

finished it earlier today. loved it. must watch. brilliant 😀 would have liked if Cleopatra had a larger role. loved the actress who played the role. death of Cicero was very entertaining 😀
