If you dont want to go through the hassle, just get your old SIM cut by any mobile shop. They charged me 100 rs about 2 years back, but now should be down to 50 or so. they cut it with a template device like a stapler, so that you can combine the 2 pieces and put the SIM into a normal phone when you want as well. I do this for internaitonal travel, where I replace my airtel sim with a matrix sim and put my cut sim into a spare phone of mine...

My wife is using a normal SIM cut to MicroSIM but in iPhone i cannot get the "My Number" thing working as because of this i guess i am not able to activate iMessage and Facetime. So i plan to get a dedicated MicroSIM for her so all these things work. On more factor that might be at play here is that the current SIM is very old (i think 2007 year) so it might not be working well (as in does not display the "My Number" etc).

I avoid the hassle of visiting vodafone store and bought micro sim cutter for 185/- only.

If you have a regular sim and bought the micro sim from Vodaphone how long does the activation take from old to new ??

Thats what I finally did. Got a regular sim and cut it into a Microsim. Working fine with my iPhone 4S.

I'll mention my story here. I've a Vodafone Maharashtra circle prepaid number, used by my wife. The SIM was purchased about 6 years ago and used on Sony Ericsson phone. The phone reported SIM problem several times, so wanted a new micro SIM from Vodafone for iPhone.I checked at Vodafone gallery at Thane, they don't have SIMs for any circle other than Mumbai. I was told to go and check at either Kalyan or Ulhasnagar. I tweeted to Vodafone about this. Those idiots told me to visit a nearby store. I reiterated Maharashtra circle, then no response. So, I went to Kalyan (store is right outside the station), they don't stock Maharastra circle SIMs. So, I went to Ulhasnagar, the store is quite far from station. All rickshaws in Ulhasnagar are shared and I had to use multiple rickshaws to reach the store. After the usual round of nonsense at the store (it is toooooo long a story to write here), I was told that micro SIM was out of stock. Finally, I took a regular SIM, Rs. 25, went to a shop nearby and got it cut. I spent several hundred Rupees, an entire afternoon and hell a lot of pain just for this SIM.When Maharashtra and Mumbai circles are merged for operational purposes, whey the hell can't Vodafone stock the SIM cards? Also, roaming charges are applied for outgoing calls, disgusting.I took an airtel, Maharashtra circle, postpaid micro SIM from Thane store; during Jan 2012.
