hi group..plz help me out..bsnl truly sucks... for some part of the day...connection is good..admirable... but mostly in night.. evening.. connection drops down..within 2 mins..adsl line goes off..and comes agaion...i am fed of this... i cannot download even 1mb during eveninghrs...plz help... suggest some.. settings ..i am using D-Link glb502t model..... i use lan to connect...thnks in advance

This is a case of weak insulation between the cable pair. When there is a weak insulation in the underground cable, it tends to pick up electrical induction and the line parameters go down. You can notice it if you monitor the SNR during the day and durin the night. If there is a big difference between them, I suggest you to contact your local office and ask them to get the cable pair changed. You will have to log on to the router to verify this through 192.168.1.1 and check in the status tab and the ADSL parameters. I hope you can do it.

Basically there are three parts of the cable that is running from the exchange to the subscriber's premises. The fist one is known as the primary cable which runs from exchange to the pillar (Almariah like thing that you see by the side of roads). The second cable is known as distribution cable which runs between the pillar to the DP (A pole or a small box attached to the wall of any house). And the third one is the visible cable that is known as drop wire. The induction problem was mainly observed in primary and secondary cables which are underground. The drop wire induction is a remote possibility. You can ask the local office to change the cable pair once you note down the SNR values in both evening and day time. You can tell the local office that there is induction in the cable and it needs to be changed. They are aware of such problems. I only wish that they respond quickly. Or else find out the direct number of the DE (Divisional Engineer) of your area and speak to him directly about it if you dont get good response from the local office.

i have a similar problem, same hardware , D-Link GLB-502T , WINXP , LAN , earlier i used to connect using Bridge , now after i patched the MAC and Ethernet address i am able to connect using PPPoE , the problem was severe using bridge , it has reduced considerably after using PPPoE but still there are disconnections like after 1 hour , sometimes 3 hours sometimes 10 mins, the ADSL lights start blinking then they go off for few seconds and then blink again and then after a few minutes of similar behavior the connection is back on again , sometimes have to switch off and on the modem for it to connect else the blinking feature continues , is this the same issue as mtech84 ?

you mentioned something about SNR what does it stand for i checked my the Status tab of my router window there is no ADSL parameters link

However, you can go to status and then click on MODEM STATUS and then check the DS Rate and US rate (Down Stream Rate and Up Stream Rate) and check for DS Attenuation and US attentuation in both day and night times.

If the DS attenuation or US attenuation is increasing in the night, then it is only due to induction. Check for these values and post them here.
