How to get High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) and color fuel stickers in India?

Apparently they are mandatory in metro cities now?

I have not heard much about them but this looks like another major scam in the making.

You cannot get a number plate made from a local car accessories shop now?

What exactly is in the number plate? RFID tags? What is the purpose?

I guess this is going to become another nuisance for the car owners in India as they would be challaned for not having these new plates.

Bowing to the concerns voiced by HC, the government said it has deferred a proposed crackdown on vehicles without the numberplates till Thursday.

i called superon just to get an idea of if i can get the sticker on the day and time on my slip. the guy told me that it might get delayed so it's best to call in the morning before leaving. it's just a sticker so it should not be a big deal. plus it's hyundai's own dealership so i do not expect any line or anything. would post on 6th how it works out.

tomorrow is the day for my sticker appointment. and i am now a bit concerned.
 
Got the sticker installed. No issues at Superon Hyundai service center. Installation guy was an idiot. Put both stickers skewed so it's a pretty messed up install but at least no worry about this particular fine on the road 😖
 
Such a hefty installation fee and a crap job?

Primary sticker is transparent with the printed content on it. And they they are sticking colored sticker over it. Hyundai guy misaligned both of them.

Can anyone check on their site for the list of Hyundai service centres in Gurgaon that do the number plate fixing thing? Cannot see it for my car since we already have an existing booking on hand.

Tl;dr - Process is f*cked

Long version:
  • Didn't get my plates
  • Single window, 100 people, average wait time over 4 hours, plates & stickers being handed out - nobody to actually install them
  • Don't expect to get your plate on the day of the appointment. Expect a few days of delay - the new date was written by hand from the counter
  • No social distancing as expected, clothes put in the washing machine and had a bath again
  • The call centre doesn't pick up, I would fear for those who ordered home delivery
  • Need to visit at early hours (10 AM or so) and then hope for a shorter line
  • Better would be to select your car dealer as the place of fitment - should be better managed
So I will have to visit again in a few days to try my luck again. FML.

So went again today. Got my plates within 45 minutes. Installation took over 4 hours since the lines were around 500ms long and their machines had broken down. Lots of heated arguments, people being unruly, police called etc.

Whatever you all do, do not select this place for installation. Choose your car dealer/service center.
 
Yup. Hyundai guy also had a rfid sticker for aligning. Yet he had no intention of using it. He just stuck it carelessly and then did an even worse job with blue sticker. Anyhow. At least they don't stick sticker for pollution certificate though I assume it might make a comeback sooner than later. Makes it easy for cops to cut challans as they can target stationary cars as well 🤔
