The very purpose of the rule which says 80% of the stake and control must remain in the hands of the Indian partner is not the case in Tata Sky. Star Tv is calling all the shots. S0, 1) should Tata Sky be banned2) Should a rule be brought saying all 100% must be Indian owned?

Hey man is this place right to post this message?Shud post in DTH section.

why? what is the problem? 80% of the stake is with Tata's and only 20% is with Star. Am i missing something? 😱

Yeah exactly. Where are you getting that info mate? (directed at the person who started the thread?)

you are not understanding what I am saying.Yes, tatas hold 80%; and the regulation says Indian company must have 80% because control must be in Indian hands. But, it seems that even though star group has just 20%, they say what to do.So, this violates the spirit of the law.Thats why I am asking whether Tata-sky should be banned.

Financially Tata have 80% however inside the managment they can't even claim 20% becoz the main content is owned by star(we could say its parent sky which is worlwide leader for dishTvs).HOWEVER why are you targetting them only(ther are others like Hutchiston- -Essar partnership) and what kind of drastik changes have you seen in past you are mentioning. They have just started now.

The law talks about financial stake only not runnning the service. What has Star done that calls for the ban? It is similar to any other sector...only the financial stake is covered.

But, after seeing what has happened in the last few days, it seems that even though star group has just 20%, they (star) are calling the shots. They say what to do. And it seems Tatas are just giving a nod for everything.

So, this violates the spirit of the law.

Thats why I am asking whether Tata-sky should be banned.

What did you see in the past few days?

well sky gives technology, star gives entertainment and tatas give money.its as simple as that.and abt banning, well most of india watches star (ekta) channels. sorevenue anyway goes to star, the foreign company. so instead of banninganything we should ban ourself from watching star channels.(which no1 can)

more share they hold.. more money goes out of india. as simple as that.

(Directed at the thread starter)What's with this nationalisation bs ? Are you some out of work lawyer trying to stir useless shit up ?let's not forget its the content that is king here. Are TATA's making any content ? NO, they are just operators/distributors and as such have a share thats more than enough. The minimum controlling stake is usually 51:49 in other countries. It prolly 20% Star here, to protect whatever minuscule investment they have made to provide the Star service in India.

I second that. As long as the people are getting quality service why bother about the money going out of india when our own players are newbies in this field. Sky is a monster in the field of dth and have enormous expereince. Any collaboration with such an organistaion will always benefit our indian companies when you think longterm. And why do u worry about sky increasing their share in Tata Sky ? it's the matter of the government and i'm sure they will protect the interests of the indian companies. As long as the consumers get good service for reasonable money , the share issue should never be a problem.
