The biggest problem in Tata Sky is that it sucks... I saw the picture quality in a showroom, and suffice it to say I wish more people sued companies in India... DVD quality my *ss....

I'm sure they were comparing against the pirated DVDs which have 3-4 movies stuffed on 1 disc

Hi, Sorry for reviving an old topic but as an aspiring Tata Sky buyer I am curious about Thomson v/s Humax.Seems like Tata Sky has stopped supplying Humax completely. I bypassed the bigger shops (they all have Thomson) and even enquired from shops in crazy, dump neighbourhoods which had told me on the phone that they have Humax. But on reaching the shops I found their old on-display STB was Humax and all new Tata STB arrivals were Thomson 🙁I would like to ask whether more Tata-Sky users are facing the issues described here with Thomson STBs?

the freezing problem with the thomsom boxes is still there, even with the december 20th update. there is also a problem where the box stops responding to the remote and if you have pressed the channel button several times while it is not responding, the box will all of a sudden change the channel corresponding to the number of times it has been pressed.i cannot digest the fact that Tata Sky dont have the humax boxes anymore. there has to be some news about it somewhere on the net otherwise.i have 2 connections with 5 boxes in all. all boxes have this same problem. what do i do to get it changed? i have also faxed about it to the ceo of tatasky but to no avail.

Sumit you need to try and get the branch manager on the phone or reach him through email. At the same time you can lodge a complaint with TRAI on their website and the more users do this the sooner the Tata Sky people will respond to it. I firmly believe that tatasky's customer support is 100 times better than dishtv's but right now tatasky must be concentrating mostly on getting new users in the CAS areas.

BTW just read an article on business standard and it mentions that both thomson and humax have setup production bases in india so getting the boxes must not be a problem. Here's the link :

The second one I purchased on 27th dec was also of humax...The first one too was of humax... not sure y u guys r having so much problem getting a humax STB...

Thanks for more input guys.hitman, Can I please know the name and contact details of the dealer you got Humax STBs from? If you want we can PM for it. Thanks.By the way, I think Tata Sky are fooling people by pushing sub-standard Thomson boxes to them. Maybe their profit margins have increased with Thomson hence they've dumped Humax, or they're pushing the Thomsons to compensate for their various schemes in effect now like no rent for 6 months schemes etc. First of all these DTH providers are in the wrong itself by not allowing people to buy their own STBs independently. TRAI or the respective regulatory authority is responsible for not making this compuslory. Consumer is again being looted. What's new 😡

The first I bought from : Om Electronics 30-D/6 Sec-6 Rohini DelhiPIN:110085 Rohini Ph:27047601 Second one i bought from Shekhawat Telecom C 7/70 Sec 8 RohiniPIN:110085 Swimming Pool Ph: 9312553761 Fyi... They don't have any idea of the company of the STB's.. they just know its Tata Sky.... U have to check urself by opening the box...

i agree with mahakaal about the service of Tata Sky being better than DishTV but there is still a lot of scope for improvement. My experience with their call centre is that the helpdesk executive sitting on the other end of the phone is a fool and is only reading from a preset list for every problem. For example, the freezing problem with my Thomson boxes is always entertained by the call center as a Signal Problem. They dont have any other option in their complaint form on their screens.I can understand the delays in the CAS notified areas but that is understood due to the heavy rush.Other than these problems, I am very much satisfied. I am also quite sure about TataSky being able to resolve the issues with the boxes.

Found a Humax at another smallish shop near around my location. Since warranty and service would be from Tata Sky direct I am hoping it will all go well. Still I would have liked to buy it from a bigger shop but they're all stocking Thomson.
