I was not trying brainwash you into forcefully not taking up an IT job after EC 😀 . But yes, it would be better that you dont start of by taking EC & hoping to land up in IT later. Focus, on seeing if you can do well in what the degree is supposed to get you into.

lol who's talking about brain washing here?but yes your points were relevant that those graduates weren't getting jobs because other graduates would get those. So I will try my level best to not do that and get into my degree job.

In both CE and ES, you'll start off with passive electricity (called Networks) and move to Electronics which is all about semiconductors. The difference comes into play when you want to take the upper level classes. You'll have choices of things like signal processing (great stuff), communications theory (also deceptively titled... really filter theory), operating systems, and VLSI design.Anyway, in ES, you don't have any choice but to study things like power transmission (just power transformers and high voltage) and control systems (what makes manufacturing work) and that stuff sucks. In CS, you have more choice to mix and match computer programming courses with analog theory classes and then learn to make them work together in DSP. However, go with what fascinates you the most and do it from a good institute like UPES, Dehradun or so..My friend is studying Computer Engineering in UPES, Dehradun and is very glad. I remember him telling me that UPES runs B-Tech program with a specialization in Cyber law, Retail Automation and Cloud computing, Telecom informatics etc in computers and they also have other engineering programs in the field of Electronic, Power, Oil & Gas, Transportation, Infrastructure etc which are equally good. I suggest you check out their website for course information and details. Good Luck!

You can work in IT but will use your engineering prowess in non-service companies as others have already suggested. Creativity will come out in non-service companies and salary and recognition will be a lot better too.

subjects like signal processing is a sucide, u will end up doing phd or start writing books and u may enter research fields.
For these kind of fields companies only wants people from IIT. Very few companies wants people from these field and these subjects are not a cake walk.
And If you belong to universities like MU/VTU/PU with ECE as a subject comming out of it will be sometimes difficult.
I would suggest u to take cs.
