Airtel Broadband: Static IP with Airtel

also static ip helps ensure lesser waiting times on link-removed [/b]
It's quite the opposite actually. Rapishare (free downloads) places restrictions on usage by detecting the users ip and enforcing wait times between downloads and disallowing concurrent downloads from the same ip. So if u have a static ip, you'll be forced to wait an hour or so between downloads whereas with a dynamic ip you can simply power cycle the modem to get a new ip and continue downloading.

As regards speeds in South Delhi, well it depends on what plan you opt for:

Home 699 (upto 128kbps) - 12-14kBps (Day) / 23-26kBps (Night)

Home 999 (upto 256kbps) - 22-27kBps (Day) / 50-55kBps (Night)

Speeds are doubled at night (10:50pm-6:50am) for the above plans; both of which come with unlimited data transfer. Upload speeds are around the same, except they're not doubled at night for the Home 999 plan if am not mistaken.

thanks a lotlooks like gonna get airtelhotwire used it for 2 years nowand they also started throttling speedsso no point paying more for a service which is available cheaper from airtelany other suggestions welcome...

Hi,I recently subscribed to Airtel BB. Earlier I had a Ut Starcom-300R2U ADSL Modem from BSNL Broadband. I also use a NetgearWG614v% Wireless Router. But I am facing issues while configuring the Wi-Fi in my house. When I use the Wizard on the ADSL Modem for PPPoE connection, it works perfect and I get internet on my laptop via Ethernect cable. But we are two persons staying, and use Wi-Fi mode to access Internet from our laptops. Below mentioned are the issues:1. I setup Bridge Mode in ADSL Modem using Wizard. I used G.Dmt as Modultaion and PVC0(PVPi-1, VCI-32) values for Bridge Mode setup. ADSL Modem IP is 192.168.1.1.2. When I use Wizard in Netgear, it detects the Internet connection as Static IP. And here is where the problem. Does Airtel use static IP for DSL connections? I have tried the a blogspot link by a person Sanjay, after searching Airtel forum here, but with no success. If anyone can please throw some light on this issue, and help me making set-up Wi-Fi with provision of allowing certain ports to be open for torrents. Thanks in regards,J a c k 🙂

Airtel uses static IP, in cases of Unlimited usage connection, and dynamic for others...and for torrent port -that need to be set in the adsl modem....

@Ashish: Cool man. You got it right. I am using a unlimted plan. Fine so far, so good. How do I go ahead with setting up Wi-Fi router? While setting up internet connection with the ADSL Modem, I did not gave any static ip. When I go for wizard setup in Netgear Wireless Router, it asks me to provide IP Adress, Subent Mask, Domain Name, etc(Sorry I don't remember the entire page detail). But ofcourse the Airtel techician had given 192.168.1.6 to my laptop and DNS server names. Any other inputs as how to go ahead and setup Wi-Fi?

assign 192.168.1.6 [and all other settings that are on your laptop] to Netgear. Or you can turn on DHCP.Once you do that, change LAN option so that netgear assigns 192.168.15.X IP to Laptop. This way IP range of Netgear and ADSL router will not clash.

@Netfreak.Thanks for your solution. I will implement it once I return home from office. What I understand from your suggestion:1. Copy the appropriate values from the system TCP/IP setting setting to Netgear. Apply. Reboot router and test.2. In case of more than one laptop connecting to Wi-Fi routerenable DHCP in ADSL Modem.(or Netgear Wi-Fi Router). I could not get this point completely.3. LAN Change option. I did not get it. Can you please clarify , if you have some time? Regards,J a c k

Nope, UL connections have Dynamic IPs, i do know that certain Business connections do get one or more static IPs, i don't know that if any Home connections even get static IPs.

haan sushubh bhai, jo bhi koi naya connection le raha hai, usse static they rahe hein (unlimited plans)....@jack - wifi router is askin for internal IP - my suggestion - don't put any value in router, let any value there which is by default; set IP and DNS automatically (after copying current value somewhere) of both computer and laptop and any other machine u wanna connect to internet.... U'll be set, up n runnin......

umm my own connection is less than a month old. i dont think i have a static ip 😱

Hi,Thanks a lot to all of you who are spending their time to help me out.@Ashish, Thanks for your suggestion I had sneaked into my house during lunch hours to check this static IP thin. I did Wizard on Modem, and gave just the userid and password. Nothing else.@SushubhI am confused as how to get this Wireless. Any friend or any post where any information linked to this has been mentioned?@NetfreakIf you could plz elaborate, "change LAN option so that Netgear assigns 192.168.15.X IP to Laptop" in your reply?I have been trying from evening for workaround, but with no success. Guess tonite also I have settle with no Wi-Fi.Any solutions, or post or links which can help me out?Regards,J a c k.

You need to go into LAN IP Setup on Netgrear, and there is an option to manage IP range of clients. There Enter 192.168.15.2 -- 192.168.15.255That is required because:1. ADSL router assignes adress in 192.168.1.X space2. If Netgear's OWN IP is 192.168.1.X then net wont work if your Laptop's IP is in the same rangeI posted a screenshot of Exact steps a year or 2 ago on this forum. Search should turn up that post.

Airtel uses dynamic ip for ul users !! whenever i need to change the ip .... i simply reboot the modem... thats it.
