Mumbai update :Just spoke to one Ms. Thatte at Mtnl Cumballa hill. Their fibre network currently extends only to one km from their building at Pedder Road. I stay at Haji Ali which falls just outside that range. She was friendly enough to inform me that they had received many inquiries from my building and asked me to check again in 2-3 months by which time they may roll it out here. Fingers crossed.

I have left a query at CC. They will revert soon if FTTH is available near Prabhadevi Telephone exchange. Seems like Hayai blew it
...yeah... terribly sorry that some areas like Prabhadevi are an utter PITA to try and pull any infra through and there not even being any decent enough LCOs. My bad 😉

Another update from mtnl for pedder road (mumbai) users. They have no plans to extend the cabling until October which is when they will review again and even then chances look slim. Probably will have to wait for mukesh to launch 4g before mtnl gets its act together

i really doubt mtnl gives a damn abt mukesh !! lol
they work on their own timeframe ! mukesh or no mukesh !

Are there any other reliable and relatively cheap plans for high speed broadband in South Mumbai?

try fivenet. i had their connection but they stopped in my area. decent plans plus a 100mbit dc++ hub. almost nil downtime.

Call me a pessimist, but I'd be willing to bet there's people (who don't understand about the need for fibre) involved, getting in the way with their own selfishness. What? you want to drill under *my* driveway and block access to it for TWO WHOLE HOURS!!!??? HELL NO!! AND DON'T YOU EVEN THINK OF DEFACING MY PROPERTY WITH NO DAMN OVERHEAD CABLES, EITHER!! ...but I still want your service, when will it be delivered? 😀

I'd think it was more of simple apathy at one of many loss making govt psu's. I'm surprised why and how its broadband speeds continues to be one of the most reliable in mumbai.

It may be that, too - but I can only relay my own experiences in dealing with people in areas like this: Bandra, Cumballa Hill, Marine Drive, Fort - these sorts of areas all have the same sorts of problems.

I need some help guys : ).
I called the 1505(or whatever it is) number for MTNL FTTH helpline and told them I was in need of their FTTH service. I was offered 2 phone numbers which was my locality(wadala) center or something along those lines. Now this was a week ago nearly and I've been calling them almost every day between 10-6 PM and no one picks up. How should I proceed : S ?

Thank you very much!
I've went there. Spoke with the man & was given an application form for a new number to fill. Another officer asked me to write FTTH on top of it before giving it back and that they will take care of it. I shall fill the form later tomorrow and submit it shortly.
*Fingers Crossed*
