Hellow, my friends:
I am from China, Shandong provience , I come to India for more than 3 monthes, and now I am in Chennai.
I found the broadband in India is really toooo expensive.Anybody agree with this?
Now we are using Airtel broadband 75 GB ,I am not clear of the speed , normally the download speed is 200-300K/S, but after more than 75GB, the download speed will be very slow. If we buy extra data , it is really very expensive,50 GB for Rs. 1499/- , you know , 75 GB is really not enough for us .

In China, the broadband is like this , we pay for one year with 1000 yuan ,that is 9000 Rs , and the speed will be 2-10 Mbps, and we have never heard that there is a data transfer limit. We just download as we like , wacthing TV online , and do not need to worry about the transfer limit , most time we just keep the computer working for day and night for download MKV movies ,which are really very clear for looking. one day and night ,we can download more than 20 movies from internet ,the data will be more than 50 GBs.

So I really do not understand why it is so expensive here in India, don't you think they have charged us too much ?

Yes, Indian ISPs implement FUP(Fair Usage Policy) which lets you download content at full speed, as per your plan, up to a certain limit (75gb in your case) and after that they shift you to 256kbps. (BSNL downgrades it to 512kbps, if you are looking for alternatives).I'd suggest you to look at local ISPs, cable isps etc. since they have better limitations and sometimes even unlimited.

I just wonder why they implement FUP? now with the technology develepment , the connection equipments(routers /switches) can run at a very high speed, which can allow all the users use the internet at full speed. because the ISPs have the fibre cables which can afford very high speed. Thanks for your reply.

tons of reasons. unlike china we have a democracy here. a very corrupt one which does not focus on enhancing the lives of the common man. unlike china we access majority of online content outside our borders which means international bandwidth charges. unlike china we are still a third world country and there are bigger things to worry about than internet access.

If you need more than 75 GB, you can go for a higher plan:Rs. 1999/- for 150 GB@2MBPS.Rs. 2099/- for 150 GB@4 MBPS. Post 150 GB, the speed will reduce to 256 KBPS. 🙁This is better than paying Rs. 1499 /- for 50 GB using smatbytes.

They are not only expensive but plans are crap too !PS: the image that u posted doesn't really help much as its in Chinese, well even if it was in eng. it wouldn't have changed anything !

Some reasons are:
1. It is very expensive to lay cable in India as the government charges exorbitant money. Even if we pay the government and lay the cable, the local operator will come and break them as it threatens his business. Going to police is not an option as local operators are front of local politicians and law takes its own sweet time (practically few years) to resolve here.
2. Power cost and cost of capital is high in India resulting in higher cost for setting up data center. This increases proportion of international bandwidth and hence the cost.
