If BJP was in power I would have some hope for action by Govt. With Cong,I dont have a ounce of hope.

Its one and the same thing. There is not much difference between the BJP and the Congress.

Its really sad to see the Head of India (In the Map) cutoff and part of Kashmir being captured by Pakistan. Its true that what he studied in school was Post 1947 but POK was taken away by Pakistan and extended over the years.

But the Fact still remains Google should be forced to correct the Map or sued according to Indian Laws...

Encarta was a stand-alone product that was successfully modified to suit Indian wishes.

But what you are asking for is treading on some delicate ground here, you are in effect asking for censorship of a web product. Slippery slope isn't it...next they will be saying all objectionable intl. influences via the web is not desirable for young Indian minds.

Not sure i'm prepared to go that far over just a map.

So what exactly is the 'correction' that you want? Even If the govt takes it up with Google,You think
they would attach it to Indian territory? That simply wont be done. Then,Pak will attack Google.

So at best,Google would call it a disputed territory. But that would still be better than liberally attaching it to PAK territory like it has now.

and politics apart,I think BJP has some real patriotism.

What does POK stand for? Pak occupied Kashmire that means according to Intl agencies(not me ) that it is under Pak control

Infact most intl news agencies divide it into 2 parts- Indian occupied Kashmir and Pak Occupied kashmir and they label the whole of Kashmir as disputed and I think that is fair enough according to intl norms.

100% agreed. Next they will ask for ban on all Human rights orgs websites which expose various types of HR violation in our countries,,,and then a day will come when we will be able to access only Indian sites.

Best is give the viewer all the info and let him decide what is right or wrong.

Bhagat Singh was a terrorist for the British Regime and a freedom fighter for us.

So views differ widely and therefore the Govts shud not impose their own ideologies on the people. Unfortunately that has not been the case

HC directs Maha govt to issue notice to Google

The Aurangabad bench of Bombay High Court has directed the Maharashtra government to issue notice to Google for alleged spread of hatred about India by its social network service `Orkut'.

The order was issued by Justice A P Deshpande and Justice R M Borde yesterday in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by local Advocate Yugant R Marlapalle.

A picture of burning national tri-colour, bearing anti-India messsage, has been put on www.orkut.com and a community \"We Hate India\" has been created on the site, the petition said.

The petition has also appealed to the government to appoint a `controller' under the Information Technology Act-2000 to regulate all such communities being in operation on the internet.

Orkut is an online community that connects people through a network of friends. The website is providing an online meeting place to socialise, make new acquaintances and find others with common interests.

The next hearing in the case is scheduled after six weeks. [/b]

it would be interesting to see if they can manage to do what just brazil has managed to do till now.

Umm, slight difference between us & Brazil, they went after orkut to give them information about alleged drug dealing by users of the orkut network. Also if you read in the news Sao Paulo has been having a bit of a gangster problem lately, sounds like a turf war, maybe drug dealing is a factor. Here we are dealing with a different matter all together, a more grey area, if some one posts hateful messages in a community, i'm betting they are already violating orkuts TOS, so the govt. is asking Orkut to enforce them. Should not be a problem to ban the grp for this, the surpsing bit is that it takes a govt. to do this, would have thought enough complaints by other users would have been enough.

Times Of India print edition dt. 11 Oct 06 too has covered the report of legal notice to Google. As per claims in International Court at Hegue Kashmir is not disputed but an integral part of India but there is a technical flaw - clause of plebiscite has not been complied so far by India since last five decades. For this technical flaw credit goes to Nehru's blunder. The bone of contention is arguments on both sides - India has technically sound case as Dogra ruler Maharaj Hari Singh who had initially refused to sign merger with Indian Union did so after Kabaylis entered deep into Kashmir with support and backing by Paki army and what was left by then is still with India. Nehru always lacked confidence to conduct opinion poll immediately then or even in later years and get the issue resolved finally. Rather Nehru locked Sher-e-kashmir Sheikh Abdullah into jails for decades who was the only one having backing of masses and who could have changed the equations. So we see the condition as is the case now, lot of unrest and uncertainties besides a lakh civilian lives lost in last two decades.I doubt if polls for opting merger with either India or Pakistan would ever be conducted but if conducted as of todays situation bias would be against India no doubt - a reason why it has not been conducted. Kashmir being the only princely state with Hindu rulers ruling over majority of Muslims has turned out to be sour episode. BJP's patriotism ends at rheotric only otherwise some progress at Hegue and UN would have been seen when they were in power. Speeches don't resolve issues but a strong will which was not seen then.-- RKS
