Anybody here using a charging dock? I used a case with my 4S and very confused about what to buy that would fit with the case.

docks usually does not support cases because of the added thickness. that has been my experience. even screenguards can make the scene complicated.

I've been using a dock and I doubt any case can be used along with it due to the thickness of the case. Personally, I am happy with the dock's functionality over using a case .

What dock do you use? i mean the make? I have put my phone in the dock stations of Bose & Yamaha with the case and there was no problem at all. Now i want a night stand for my phone with line out. And everywhere i read that it wont fit with the case. Apple stores don't have the official one on display and i have not been able to try it.

I am not using any charging dock. And generally if you always prefer to use the case and you also want to use the functionality of charging dock then you probably have to remove the case before docking the device in to the station.

I don't like to use cases on any Apple products. I believe that we pay shitload of money to get these sexiest devices out of whole lot and why to cover them with cases? However to protect my 4S from scratches, I always use these Apple recommended power support crystal film set. BTW you must not be a phone dropper to use an iPhone this way. 😀

I never quite understood the use of sound docks and see it in the positive light. The same also applies for charging docks as a night stand.

Generally most of the sound docks charge device simultaneously whilst playing music. So basically it ruins the battery cycles. Yes I know these Apple masterpieces are coming with intelligent battery circuit. But various studies have found that it still creates negative effect of battery due to regular periodic changes in overall temperature of the device.

Now wait there's convenience of dock. That is the major USP for these docks. You don't have to burn CDs or put songs in flash drives to listen music, just stick the phone to the dock. But in such scenario, Apple already provides the better solution. Actually Steve himself introduced this phenomenal technology of streaming the data with Apple TV. He did it again with launch of Airport Express at D3. It has the ability to run Apple's proprietary Airplay technology to stream music digitally right from iOS device & send it to the receiving end system digitally.

To cut the long story short, I have connected my room's Airport Express with Bose Lifestyle system. And 99% of music I have is the 2.1 channel stereo. Therefore Bose 235 which is basically 2.1 system works seamlessly with my content without ruining the experience. And as it has the digital optical input, I connected Airport Express directly to the sound system with the use of optical cable (TOSLINK). So no loss in sound here.

So when I am in my room, I don't have to go all the way to dock & stick the phone to listen music & go again to dock to change the freaking album. I just simply open the music app in iPhone & airplay icon magically appears. I just tap on it & my music is playing across my sound system. Complete wireless & loss-less experience. I don't even use the big ass bose remote anymore. I can instantly change the volume & EQ right from my iPhone. Seriously I will say it again it gives magical feeling. And I don't have to worry about battery cycles. Presently streaming is the best way to listen music. Airport Express is the way to go if you are in Apple ecosystem. It also works with any MAC or PC with iTunes to stream music wirelessly across your stereo speakers. So no need for any iOS device in this mode here. 😀

BTW you can also purchase second AE to plug it with your printer & use Airprint to print wirelessly from your iPad. This becomes very handy when in the morning you are quickly flipping through tech articles on flipboard and you suddenly come across some nice read then you can instantly print it to read on-the-go without any fuss. It just 'works'.

🙂

Thats way to costly for me as of now. Don't want to go spend 10K when i can get what i want to do for 300. Obviously your solution is more favorable but the cost is high. 🙂
