It’s that asterisk that ends up contradicting the definition of ‘unlimited’ in broadband plans. What it refers to is the way bandwidth is rationed by ISPs in India, as if it were a precious commodity - an egregious limitation when applied to wired broadband plans. On posters, advertisements and billboards, most ISPs in India promise 4 to 5 Mbps unlimited broadband plans, only to throttle down the bandwidth to a trickle after hitting a wafer-thin monthly data cap. Let’s count the ways in which the Fair Usage Policy sucks.
