Asha phones don't support multitasking... Right ??

They are launching touch mobile or qwerty keypad mobile seems normal keypad mobile will be in history soon

Samsung is doing really good with thr duos phones, Nokia wants to get on top again in this segment.Pretty phones

Symbian OS supported multi tasking from a long time. I guess this one too supports it!

Pros: Corning Gorilla Glass

Cons: Look at RAM 🙁

Device Details -- Nokia Asha 311

Those are not Symbian phones. All Asha series phones (new and old) work on S60 platform based on Java.

To add, multitasking is not supported.

Dual SIM, 3" full touch screen phone at sub 5K Rs (read Asha 305) is already a hit, whatever else you throw in spec sheet does not matter much. People buying phones in this range especially Dual sim once have different set of requirement than apps or multitasking. Just that user experience should be good in addition to telephony/messaging especially when its full touch. Nokia has got it right this time. S40 OS for these full touch phones have many UI elements borrowed from Meego, a big plus. I would prefer these phones any day than medicore androids you get in 4-7K range.

so without multitasking it means that an app like whatsapp messenger won't work in the background and one has to open it to check for messages ??

Probably no. It wil support switching between third party apps to messaging and music without closing them as is case with many mid range Nokias. Switching between two or more third party apps wont be possible.

I am not 100% sure about it though. I am just assuming based on how current S40 phones work.

Yeah S40 devices are said to be limited multitasking capability or no true multitasking. Better answer - NO. 🙂

^ AFAIK, these are S40, not S60

Oh my bad! Yes, its S40. Typed that in no attention!

Yes! Its sort of limited multitasking. I tried few recent S40 phones and they could navigate between music, messages with one app running. It needs hardware dedicated button for music and messages though. I doubt if full touch S40 can do that unless there's some other way to do that.

Nokia's director for Smart devices pointing to more focus on Indian market. Many new phones including all Asha series will be manufactured in Indian facility in volumes to cater local and sub continent demand.

For now asha 305 is available , quite a good phone in my opinion lots of new tweaks for customizing, easy access and mainly the web.
