I am considering getting an ebook reader. I assume couple of guys here already own a Kindle. I plan to get something soon.

Question... Kindle or Nook?

Where do we get eBooks for the same. I would prefer legit sources for obvious reasons.

Kindle Touch seems like a decent option. It costs below 10K so should not invite custom duty. And I believe Amazon has global delivery for the Kindle?

Junglee.com: Kindle Touch, Wi-Fi, 6" E Ink Display - for international shipment tells me that it would cost me around Rs. 10K including shipping.

Suggestions?

dunno how convenient it would be to read in the bed. in any case, how much? 🙂

Anything above 8k is good for me.

hmm. So let me get this correct. You are offering me the Amazon kindle dx that retails for USD 380 for Rs. 8K (plus shipping)? 😀

Correct.

Let me know if you're interested.

Do you want me to post some pics?

ah well. i can take your word i guess. how would you like the transaction to proceed? i deposit a check? online money transfer? before or after i receive the product? 🙂

I recommend the nook. I think its the perfect e-reader. Just got one. Main reasons for going for the nook are:

1) its just $79
2)Supports the open ePub format.
3) Its touchscreen. (kindle touch screens cost almost double)
4) if you require led back light to read in the dark, then nook is the only ereader with this feature.
5)6 inch screen is ideal for reading. Before purchase experimented reading for a few days on a friends iPad. 10 inch is just too big. 6 inch screens are the exact same size as most books are. Its very natural to hold. Also spent a few hours with a kindle 6 inch and knew it was just the right size.
6) The kindle for $79 is not ad free and doesn't have touch and doesn't support the open epub format. So knocked it of the list.
7) Nook runs on some version of android. Can be rooted so that the browser is enabled and can download books (other than the barnes and noble store) over wifi. Also allows googling certain references over the browser. Quite useful. But you def cant use it for regular browsing.

I got mine 2 days back. Will shortly post unboxing pics and my first impressions.

Project Gutenberg is the best source for a vast library of ebooks; all free. This is infact one of the major reasons of getting a ereader. Lots of great ebooks for free.
