there are no moving parts. that's why they are speedy. on a regular hdd. the spindle has to access different parts of the drive mechanically which adds the lag and results in wear and tear.
When would the HDD prices come down to last years level?It has almost been an year since the thailand flood and still the HDD cost is twice it was earlier. I am begining to wonder whether the prices would come back down at all. Since the SSD entered the market, has the HDD manufactures decided to get the maximum profit for their products.

That's the truth. They even reduced the warranty period.
Without proper alignment most of the HDD's will perform like crap, don't blame SSD drives and learn to set them up. you won't be seeing a price drop in hdds anytime soon and according to some only in Q2 2013 , reason , since most of the production lines were destroyed they had to be rebuild during which process WD, Seagate decided to upgrade them also which was kinda pending, new faster drives and more new models will start popping out now instead of the older ones for the market to settle down this will take time.
