I see utterly no evidence of throttling whatsoever, how long will my luck last eh 😉..a yr now 🙂There have been rare times where things got slow..but it usually got resolved within a day or 2, without even calling CC.

Airtel does not have its own bandwidth[/b]

Umm...Airtel has its own gateway and does not rely on VSNL for bandwidth 😛 Anyhow, even my speeds dropped for a week. Were back to normal after that. So no sign of throttling for now. But then speeds are well below those advertised to begin with.

advertised speeds are 256 . so dl shud be at 32 kBps .. we never get that.. its always around 27.. but thats fine ..

its still under 15kBps ..
even my speeds dropped for a week. Were back to normal after that.[/b]
this sounds gud .. 🙂 .. so all hope is not lost .. the thing that made me wonder was that CC didnt say nething and they said they could not do anything bcoz all was well at their end . they said it was my comp that had the prob 🙄

Check ur speed here : http://speed.airtelbroadband.in/ . If it's below 128kbps, call 1504 and register a complaint. If it's above 128, then there's not much u can do other than wait n hope that it's a temporary glitch.[/b]

can u tell me why u specified 128 .. what if its 140kbps .. is that normal . (i've never had the problem )

i ran that test and it showd

Code:
Your current bandwidth reading is:123.20kbpsRetestwhich means you can download at 15.4 KB/sec. from our Network to your last mile provision
not good is it ... 🙁

airtel just promise half of the advertised speed. and this is from their local servers. so the consumers are all fcuked up indeed.

Airtel guarantees speeds between 128-256kbps for their Home 999 plan. 216 to 123kbps is a massive drop....mine was only marginal (108 to 90 for Home 699). Since it's below 128kbps u just need to call them up, tell them ur situtation and they'll be forced to send someone over to get this sorted out within 4 hrs.Meanwhile u could check if everythin's fine at ur end.....make sure that the modem lights do not blink at all when the connection's idle i.e. no downloads, no surfing etc (maybe a slight flicker after every 3-4secs but nothin more than that). This could help rule out the possibility of ur comp being infected with some worm/spyware however remote that maybe. If they're blinking vigorously, then u need to scan ur comp for possible infection and see if that leads anywhere. A simpler way would be to test out the connection with another comp if possible.

hey thanx a lot .. no the lights do not blink . scanned the comp too .. spybot then spyware doctor and then spysweeper .. 😀nthn found .. have this bitmeter and it shows 0.00 as the transfer speed when comps idle. so am sure its not infected ...will call then tomo morn and ask them to send some1 over ...

i hv home699 and speeds i get are 96/190 kbps, these airtel ppl are such cheats !!!!!!! i bet they doin throtlling, coz wen i took my connection i took it on word of a friend who got awesome speeds 120/240kbps consistently thats is until i took the connection, i nvr got to see such speed but now even he can't.

In beginning i too keep getting low speed around 20-22 in day but after 1-2 complains its fixed. No such problem here now. I get 27-29 constantly in day and 52+ at night.

All Airtel users, especially bangalore airtel users, I wanted to know one thing - About their 'down time' 😀 whether it is rare or severe or nothing at all

I am tellin ya all. Airtel has now more customers than it can handle smoothly.
[/b]
Appears to be the case in the north

hoping it does not happen here.

hmm..maybe if i say the same as that northern dude, less ppl will take it up and it will never get slow...
Strange thing is Sunil Bharti is from Ludhiana or Punjab, would have thought that state would have the best performance of all.

As for downtime in BLR, a cpl of hours usually around the weekend during the hrs of midnight to 6am, they usually send out email warning about this.

...barring any unforseen accidents of course, of which there have been none in the yr i've been with them.

The problem is only limited to local DSLAM's as i have clarfied earlier. Overall Airtel has more than enough bandwidth 😛 . If anybody is getting very slow speeds then most likely its an overcapacity/bandwdth issue at the lowest level i.e. DSLAM's not being allocated enough bandwidth according to the number of users in that area.
