^ Optic Fibre Cable is different . It carries signals
thru Light . Not thru wires !

I knw that man it has a glass core surrounded by glass cladding and further encased in plastic sheath...
I am a 12th standard computer student n i've read that but BSNL Officer was calling it an OFC that is why i told u all so....

^ I am very happy if you got a Fibre Optic Cable
connection from BSNL .

on 22 July 2006 , it was reported that BSNL will be
shifting to Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH)
technology . This SDH technology utilises the Latest
available equipment for transmission . it includes
Fibre Optic Cable .

Then i think that bsnl officer u were saying about wouldn't have passed a 10th grade lol. That picture u sent wasnt real clear m8 but thats the same type of cable that is laid in our house too. That is definetely aint OFC.Ive been to BSNL district telecom centre for an inplant training and they said OFCs are available only between the telephone exchange and the NIB server station. You will know these things when u enter into final year of engineering.

ADSL over OFC,wow a new terminology of yours?
[/b]
ADSL over OFC is not something new and is in practice, maybe not in india any soon but some european countries and few providers in US are doing it.

And what bout the speed.isnt it 40Mbps? .you would have mistakenly typed it as 40KBps.Tell us more blah blah blah .it would be interesting to hear such things lol.
[/b]
No need to overreact as far as technology is concerned its not a hoax, but BSNL not gonna replace its current local loop based on CBTWP to OFC any soon.

Whatever it is..... He is a co-operating officer, i just know that....

and that cable costed about 2000 Rs. for laying to my home.....

And i am getting a constant 40kbps on that cable which no one would be getting here.....

To vichitra:well the frquencies used by ADSL differs with that of OFCs and morever you just cant blindly connect a OFC to the modem thinking it will send Gigs of data in a minute. And the broadband provided over OFCs have a name called GPON which is used by companies like Verizon, cox, etc., in the US but it isnt popular tho. They dont provide more than 55 Mbps.Believe me it costs 349$ a month. After all BSNL is not gonna give us 3Mbps within 2010 lol.

Ever heard of OFC to ADSL CPE bridge, Where did you found that broadband over OFC is named as G-PON ? G-PON is for backbone usage mostly till date, and its just an extension of PON standard from ITU, care to read the standards draft and I do know very well how blindly or not to connect which terminating end to what.

For a provider like BSNL, already having too much investment in ATM based backbone infrastructure, [AB]-PON could be the most viable option not the G-PON if they ever go for FLL.

Moreover what have the ADSL frequencies has to do with link carrier capability, unless carrier having the characteristic to suppress or blur the SIGNALS of relevent modulation technique, and what made you think that same modulation scheme would be used for all link carriers, copper based carrier have totally different signals flow characteristic then fibre.
In short technology could be same but techniques to implement it could vary rapidly according to differnet underlying mediums involved, ever heard of ADSL over satellite link and don't tell me that they use same DMT modulations.

You getting 40kbps on 256kbps link [assuming you having 256kbps plan], then what so fuss about it, by the way where are you from ?
I am really suspicious about BSNL providing OFC in local loop as of now.

Care to show us some network statistics screenshot mate ?

Well that is no proof, its the initial speed and an artifact of TCP congestion control algorithm.
If you really interested in giving some subtle proof then download something in size of 20/50MB and show us a snapshot of after 10MB download portion.
Till then chill out 😛

Ok i will definately....

wait till tommorow....

^ umesh , you posted this in BSNL forum & in
MTNL forum ! your connection is from MTNL / BSNL ?

I donno that but the BSNL S.D.O called it OFC n its a heavy 5mm cable....

check out this

http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/10/picture009mk2.jpg

see the picture n then tell wat it is?

a twisted wire pair or OFC
Home UL 900 alloted bandwidth is 256 Kilo BITS per second
