NOTE: This is a new app info as well as a vote request thread

There is this concept called Pokki which aims at making your desktop livelier, and brings the concepts of "app on the desktop", also acting as a showcase of HTML5. To be honest, I heard about this only when one of my friends asked for votes for a game he wrote on this one.

So here it goes, you might want to try Pokki [http://www.pokki.com...ag=Pokki_Pokki] (not for the vote, but because it genuinely looks really cool)

And then, if you like it, please do try out the game "Droid Run" (HTML5 Game Developer Contest - Pokki 1Up | Pokki) . All you need to do is download it, and let it be on your machine till the 10th, and play it at least once - more if you like it. No voting required.

GMail

Facebook

Twitter app

While on that, I need to add I liked the GMail and Facebook apps that it comes with!

i downloaded droid run and installed it. .but when i click on the icon, nothing's happening 🙁

Can you post a screenshot? I was able to download Pokki and a few apps (including Droid Run) and they worked fine.

no 🙁 i uninstalled it . After two-three times . .music started playing but i could not see the game. downloaded a couple of more games and they ran fine but they lagged a lot! is this due to my computer? (dual core2 duo processor-3gb ram)

#bobbyguitarist, I tried only the FB, GMail and Droid Run apps. All of them were light enough. I have a pretty old machine (Dual Core 2GHz, 3GB RAM, W7 Professional)#AbhishekS No. I don't see any entry in the start up for Pokki.

Reg. the safety thing, it is as safe or dangerous as the third party apps accessing Facebook or GMail. I entered the credentials in the sites of the respective apps, so it it safe in that sense, but like with all external apps, one never knows if might be storing anything. One can just hope not. That is a risk one associates with all third party apps. That said, considering this site is very popular, and is trying to carve a name, I don't think they would do anything funny.

For using most 3rd party apps Facebook asks whether to allow or not to allow. But here it asks me for the password. I haven't signed in yet. I have signed in on Twitter, though, and the app is fantastic.

^ Even the Facebook one will ask you for permission once you sign in.

Twitter app is nice, and I am not logging in to Facebook as I know that even if I like it, I'll continue using the web version! 😛

And now I've just downloaded Droid Runner, seems to be a fun and addictive game.

Wish there was an option to adjust the location of the shortcuts, sort of pissing.

apps for Yahoo! Mail and Windows Mail would have been really great.

Pokki adds an extra toolbar. You can do away with it completely, or move it elsewhere. You can't keep it in between your other icons though. To move just the Pokki toolbar, right click on your toolbar, unselect 'Lock the Taskbar', and then you would be able to adjust the position
