Pacnet, a communications provider, will be expanding Pacnet 10G IP Transit availability across more locations, with availability in Chennai planned within the first half of 2012.

Pacnet's IP Transit services rides on Pacnet's IP backbone, one of Asia's largest at over 340 Gbps :hypnotized😱f international IP backbone capacity and has a global reach that extends beyond Asia to Europe and US. Pacnet's IP network is backed by peering agreements to major overseas networks and top content providers.

Pacnet already has operations in Mumbai, but the availability of fiber to individual data-centres is limited.

@ mgcarley: Can you please explain about this 10G IP transit Service ?? I have heard very little about it .

Wholesale internet bandwidth. They are still leasing capacity on the same cables as everyone else. From what I remember they are able to offer up to 10G Ethernet on a single wavelength for customers (not 40G yet). At the moment in India, most are providing at levels where is generally stops at 1Gbit or is sold in multiples of STMs (which means conversions between ATM Ethernet which means tiny amounts of latency are added for each transaction, whereas being all-Ethernet means less conversions, less overheads and is just better)...
