Hi all,

I am experiencing weird kind of problems for the last 2 weeks, its like i am unable to acess various sites, sometimes I have to login and logout 5 or 7 times to access these sites, same goes for msn messenger too, but at times sites just dont open up. A few of them are

www.hotmail.com
www.yahoo.com
www.rediff.com
www.techtree.com

I have no idea why this is happening i tried everything at my end, disabled firewall, changed browsers, tried on diff operating systems (Win 98, ME, XP) but problem remains the same, any other member form delhi experiencing similar problems??

sify is of no help as usual

any solutions for it?

Ping your gateway to check for packet loss.Go to Start - > Run.There type "command.com" ( without quotes).Press Enter.Type "ping 10.12.21.1 -t -l 600" ( without quotes).Press Enter. If you get continuous "Request timd out" messages, try to lower that 600 to 500 and try again. What this will do is check for packet loss on your network. If you get "Request timd out" messages frequesntly then contact your CTO and tell him that there is some problem in the network.

I tried it ... ping is fine.. no request timed outbut the problem is that i am able to access some site while being unable to acess other sites....dunno wats goin oni can acess google, google mail, indiatimes, this forum.....but some other sites i cant open up... as weird as it can get.......thnx to sify..grrrrrrrrr

Hi decius,

I am from Delhi too. See my previous post --http://forum.seo4india.com/This_forum_and_..._Sify-t702.html

My problems had gone away thereafter for a few days (I am sure by themselves only and not by Sify's doing) after I lodged a complaint with Customer Care. A few days after my complaint someone from Sify called me up speaking in such an incomprehensible regional accent, and talking bullsh*t about the problem possibly being with their firewall which they had fixed. What is the role of a firewall in this, some sites open and others don't. Besides websites need port 80 outgoing to be open on firewalls which all firewalls have open by default :-|

Since my problems had disappeared when he called, he said to lodge a complaint again when it happens.

Well it's started since yesterday night again. I couldn't access my email accounts on both Yahoo and Hotmail and couldn't send an email on Sify. It doesn't get worse than this.

Really weird.Check if your DNS settings are correct.I use202.144.66.6202.144.115.4If the problem persists, call sify,if they do not do anything, take your money back from CTO.Oh i forgot,Dont use Internet Explorer,Use Opera 8 beta 2 if possible.

well im also gettin this error and i do use opera 8 beta 2 the latest one i guess and sify has blocked all pings so really cant ping there servers.

check your hosts file.. it may be a virus.. check whether the sites that you can't access aren't bound to your local ip address i.e. 127.0* 🙄

@ BhinderAs i mentioned the problem as persited over various OS (Win XP, ME, win 98) so the case of it being a virus is highly unlikely. I checked my hosts file too, everything seems to be fine. The weirdest part is that, I am able to access these sites sometimes after logging in and logging out several times....so there got to be something wrong at their end, at least that's what i think. These sify ppl driving me crazy....... @ the_oneI use the following DNS servers 202.144.50.4 202.144.115.4

if they do not do anything,
take your money back from CTO.[/b]

Easier said than done. Do you think the CTO will part with it? And you can't absolutely do anything about it if your Sify provider isn't really a CTO but is a Business @$$ociate(BA) as in my case. #@%%% him, I am going to lodge a complaint against him for keeping my net down since 5 days now after my account expired.

sify has blocked all pings so really cant ping there servers.[/b]

That's right. Sify doesn't know how to run an ISP and wouldn't let its consumers troubleshoot too. End result is total customer dissatisfaction. I am thinking about migrating to Reliance's flat rate dial-up plan with its 10 kbps speeds. Atleast I would be able to ping on it and all the sites would open, not to mention dozen other better things it would have over Sify :-|

i hated my work as a network admin (of my own sites ofcourse) when i had sify. i had to rely on dnsstuff and people on IRC.with airtel, i hate the fact that these idiots are the last to update their dns servers. 🙁

Thanks. Very nice site. Even though I think it's a network problem in Sify's case 😛

Whenever u go thru such problems, do the first thing ...Delete cookies,Delete Temp internet files,Its in Internet Options.Hope that helps
