ACT Broadband: Extremely bad service :( Avoid connection in Indranagar zone.

Lokesh,

I dont think you will get the same speed readings with Miami or other contry server as you do from the chennai or kochi server which give accurate readings. Even if you go to colombo, the speed reduces. I get a complete 4mbps with Airtel Kochi but only 3.2 odd in the Miami server. And I have absolutely no speed issues at all, Torrents during night time download at 450+ kbps.

I think the problem here is that your ISP is shaping torrent traffic and you are thinking that low torrent speed is because of low internet speed overall which might not be the case. I guess best bet is to check from local servers and report if the speed test from nearby servers are low.

As you mention i can accept speed drops from 4 to 3.2 in case of india v/s rest of the world scenerio but 10 to 2.x is really asking for bashing. Speed with torrents is also bad as mentioned. 450+ seems like a tough ask in the current scenarios.

please hide your ip for security purpose.

why ?? who's security is getting threatened by display of IPs.

If act isn't working out, look for an alternative 🙂

If act isn't working out, look for an alternative 🙂

Thanks for stating the obvious. The idea is to try and motivate ACT people to ACT better. In network issues as well as customer care.

FACEPALM.....

Oldies will precisely know the reason why...

Anyways here's the solution..................:disdain:

What's Hayai got to do with anything in this thread? This is an ACT thread and I was intending to help try and diagnose the OP's "issues": despite his speedtests within India being perfectly fine, I am granting him the fact that he is receiving poor torrent speeds which perhaps should not be happening.

Has ACT abandoned this forum? They don't seem to be replying anymore. @lokesh, I am with Airtel for the past 6-7 years, but their ridiculus FUP limits is forcing me to look around for another ISP. ACT seemed to be the answer, but considering your experience, and the fact that your are from the same area as I am... I am not sure if opting for ACT is the right act for me! Airtel is all fine until I reach their FUP limit, then it's just impossible to surf the net. I can't even view a YouTube video on the lowest quality, without buffering. If some else is on ACT from indiranagr, maybe you could share your experience. This will help lokesh to see if it's a problem everywhere in indiranagr or not? Lokesh, I've heard their office is on CMH road. Maybe you should go to their office and lodge a complaint, if that helps at all. The silence on part of ACT guys is surprising. Shifing to bsnl is also not an option, since their plans are just as bad....or am I wrong?

Lokesh Chauhan, one good reason why I moved from Airtel to ACT was because I could no longer deal with Airtel's miniscule FUP vs Packages vs outrageous Pricing. I instantly liked the package ACT was presenting and it made me think ACT was far less evil than Airtel. I've been using ACT for couple months now and it hasn't disappointed me (yet?). Oh yes, the low Trans-Atlantic speed tests were something that I mulled over for a bit but then I still have Airtel 4mbps on the backburner which I sometimes use to compare with, has no terrific results either. What helped me get over it was my buddy who sometimes uses an Airtel 16Mbps at his hotel had the same damn results. I'm going to assume it's going to be same with all Indian ISPs, makes it a lot simpler.Downloads from download.com, apple.com and some others plus the Torrent downloads with ACT are pretty =0.9-1MBps and never had a problem (I'm not sure what's causing the trouble with yours) Well, yea so this is what keeps me happy. One the 2nd ACT day, I remember having a bad time with the customer care when they didn't seem to answer my calls for 3 straight hours on a working day and it did let me down. I didn't have to deal with them after that. But I was really hoping they'd be better now.

Ah. IIT. Your attitude is merely validating why I never hire IITans 😉

lolsss. No one will even think for that. Have you ever tried and got a reply?

Read again. I am not even getting 4Mbps......

Yep i don't understand internet one bit. I was just an admin for student network at IIT Bombay having mere Gbps network. why would i know anything about networking. Not that i have ever touched a big router. Neither have i configured squid proxy more than a couple of times. I am not asking for dedicated line here. i am just saying if most traffic from major sites is cached anyway(or is served thru india based servers) then they can manage even 50% speeds on direct downloads or is that too much to ask. Please to answer your highness as you are in that business.

.....world of Internet.

Dude! for some of us, ACT is simply worth the money even if it SINGULARLY worked for Torrents or even Youtube... so chill! ACT is a NEW company with an excellent product to offer at hand... IMO If Airtel funded it and gave the SAME connection under their Brand name, they could Easily have charged 3-4 times that ACT charges...

Btw... https://broadband.forum/act-broadband/75762-configure-adsl-utstarcom-wa3002g4-switch/#post598845
try using your BSNL modem... I wasted Rs.2000/-... (bought new)3K-(sold old)1K for it... you may not need to.

P.S.: Hey... *out of topic*
you know this guy called Ashish P Vora... but he was in the Mechanical Dept.

What are you talking about? Wrong thead ?

hi gabruputt, i dont think what lokesh says is true, one of my friend uses ACT and he faces absolutely no problems.. I dont know why lokesh is suggesting of Airtel, i think that is the wrost service. The rates are also too high.. 1300+tax for a 2 mbps speed with a FUP of 30gb after which speed is 256 kbps, dumb shit.

I finally got rid of Airtel, not much of a hassle except that you'll have to answer a few different calls from the Airtel department regarding the termination, they'll try their a$$es to convince you to stay. They put me in a spot where I had to reconsider their offer; 150 GB FUP for 40% of the price. Not bad but I said No! in the end. Airtel had been faithful to me until they laid the goddamned FUP and turned evil. I love to watch Airtel facing the heat. On a sidenote, I'm also moving my Cell phone connection from Airtel to Vodafone for the exact same reasons, prices way too high for their absurd packages.

dear

we have not abandoned this forum, very much here. From the very first post of Mr Lokesh it was very clear the speed is 10mbps and only some torrent downloads were slow which we dont control. True downloads depend on the per session limit set by the source server/peer -ie torrent which downloads from multiple local peers depend on the ISP of the source? microsoft or Apple downloads will give clear 10mbps on multiple downloads.

said that we are here to resolve any such issues and we promise & deliver 10mbps.

Dear Lokesh

pl share your customer id or send me an email to helpdesk@acttv.in and I will ensure your download issues are addressed. Btw we neither do caching nor rate limit based on port - incidently one of our USP is movie downloads normally takes less than 15 mins, similarly HD movies can be watched live without buffering from youtube or any other movie site.

Good to see ACTian finally replying to lokesh. Lokesh I feel you should contact ACT and let this forum know what happened. ACTian I am willing to take your connection (Rs. 999+taxes). So as I understand, if I make 1 year down payment upfront I get extra 25GB per month on the 50 GB FUP limit? In case within the year the FUP limits are increased, will I still get the benefit upon the increased FUP limit?I have a Cisco wifi router and an Airtel modem, which i would have to return back upon disconnection. Do you provide a modem in monthly charge of 999? And what happens to the amount, if I find your service not satisfactory and want to disconnect? How much of the refund do I get and what kind of documentary proof or paperwork do would you be giving from your side to the customer upon payment....incase any issues arise customer has proof of his payment to ACT. And what is the waiting time for a new connection in Indiranagar? And for former Airtel customers, did you just go to the Airtel office and surrender the modem and phone, or is the call to CC enough? Thanks.
