Hi, I am having BSNL broadband taken for official use which i am sharing among the users using winproxy so i need to keep the modem on always. I want to know how can i configure the modem so that it can be used for browsing during office hours only say from 8 AM to 6 PM. Same is required to avoid hacking or un-wanted data transfer during evening & night time. For your info, i am having Huawei smartax mt882 modem & username, passwd & other settings has been done in the modem itself. Please revert.

Is anyone in the forum who can help me on this ???????????

hhhmmm seeing as noone has replied till yet, i think ur best bet would be to create a gateway running linux through which all the other users can connect to the internet.. u could schedule the connection to be disabled during the time in which u dont want anyone to be able to use it..

this looks like this should help http://users.pandora.be/mydotcom/howto/lan...outer/linux.htm

i dont know how the same thing might be scheduled in windows.. sorry... another thing, the computer running the gateway does not have to be a powerful one, seems like even a 486 would do

What you can do is,install a windows 2000 or 2003 server make it as a domain controller, bind all your client machines to the Domain create individual user id's andtake the propertis of individual user id's you have an option called logon hours in that you can specify the timings for users to logon

I am having Windows XP & can't change anything on server side. I believe that same can be done in modem itself. Can anybody has used this feature or know about enabling this feature in modem itself. I am sure that i can be done.

hhhmmm, here's another way u cud get it to work on xp.. it's pretty crude but hey, in the absence of anything else lol u cud set it to dial the connection and uncheck the ask for user name and password at the time which u want to connect and at the time u wanna disconnect, well schedule it to restart the computer.. u'll need to set ur modem in bridge mode for this.. p.s. dont look at me like that.. something is better than nothing 😛

^ I donot see any provision in the modem to restrict the usage timings . And both Ogtripleog & Simon havegiven helpful suggestions ...

hi.. this is further to your time base service ..have you tried your filter option ??....why dont you try and see it..one more thing you can restrict by using filter but your modem is still connected so it might pass some traffic during the time..so it is advisable that you should properly switch off the modem if you dont need internet.By using filter you can do much more just thik about it ..
