I've kinda been facing this problem too, it started about 6 months ago, got throught it mostly by resetting/turning off/on my modem multiple tiems till I got to the magical server, but it became pretty friggin terrible last week, where even youtube did not work. It's been kinda okay since yesterday though, but the latency has still not gone down. I still get a +200 ping to whatever I used to get previously. And to the u.s it's 600 ping, up from 300...quite sad. Will writing to the noc have an effect? have you guys tried that?

Writing to the noc should have some effect. I haven't had the time to do it, else I'd have done it. That said, i haven't been facing any issues for the past 2-3 days.

It s much better today..youtube is streaming @1.87mbps..back to normal.download speed to paris is showing @ 1.8mbps..only problem with ping shows 245ms to singtel and 300ms to paris.much better.....

Yeah it's been okay since friday. Latency is still pretty sad (TT my latency used to be around 50-100 for s'pore servers.), but I guess one problem at a time 😀.The next bit I need to get fixed is my upload speed which is capped at 256..

Thanks everyone, the issue is finally resolved I guess as I'm on my regular gateway with amazing pings (of course, to local servers, including to Google) and my speeds are back to normal =)

Hopefully, it shouldn't happen again..

Out of interest, what are your pings like now?

Glad you asked, it's the same as they were on the 'magical' gateway I was talking about all the time, maybe someone from BSNL indeed saw your posts on the previous page =)

Just to add on, the pings aren't that much lower as I expected, like for UK, I'm getting around 250 while the other gateway gives me 170~190. Can't complain much here, it took them 2 months to fix local latencies, I can't afford to complain again for this.

Back to being awful since wednesday (29th). Huge pings to any server outside india; heavy packet loss. Somewhat bearable for local indian servers.

Such bullsh*t, can't get anything useful done; torrents are slow (even with high S/L ratios and 500+ seeders), web pages take forever to load and laddering in SC2 is just too risky to bother with.

The randomness of when everything takes a sh*t is also quite frustrating, as is the whole connect and magically get a good/bad gateway.

Off to bed.

I have been having this frickin problem since October and I have done almost everything I could to get this sorted but it seems that BSNL doesn't give a damn to anything their users complain about.

I have raised several tickets...registered my complaint to the PG cell...sent written complaints to the DGM - NWO, Nodal officer and even the GM of Broadband but they didn't even bother to call me back on that. I am thoroughly frustrated...the connection barely works fine..irrespective of day or night...speedtest results are horrible..but the strange thing is that when I check my speed at other sites like ookla.com or bandwidthplace.com it doesn't look so bad. I am on ULD 1350 which entitles me to a bandwidth of 4 mbps

This is one of the speedtest results I got about an hour back...and mind you, it's 6:00 AM here..so I am talking of a speed at around 5 in the morning

You possibly cannot get any worse than this, can you?

I have tried using all of the commonly known public DNS'es like Google, OpenDNS, UltraDNS etc but nothing helps. In fact I just now ran a namebench diagnostic test and it suggests that BSNL-2 IN (61.1.96.71) should be my primary DNS

I am almost at my wits end now and don't know what else I could do. So any help, any advice would be highly praised

Please help guys

Thanks a lot!

@probuddha If things are that bad then, the best thing you can do is just walk away, find another isp, because your losing money, and they dont seem to care. But yeah Try to verify with different test locations, because that one seems like it's pretty messed up.Optimistically though, according to your speed test....your still faster than 16% of India 😛

Is downloading and streaming slow too ? Or are only the speed tests borked ?

Yes they're horrible...however the torrents seem to work fine..but like streaming video and stuff..aweful.

I would have done that long back buddy, if I had a choice. But we don't have another ISP in our locality apart from BSNL...well we have a cable service but that's equally bad. And I am a web professional, so my data usage runs into like 30 Gigs a month and I need a higher bandwidth for uploading/ downloading heavy files, so a wireless broadband like photon won't be enough I guess, I still have one as a backup.

But yeah Try to verify with different test locations, because that one seems like it's pretty messed up.

Could you please show me some tools that I can use to diagnose my line quality and all and I could get back to you all with the results and then maybe you could advise me better.

Optimistically though, according to your speed test....your still faster than 16% of India

lol...yes that surprising, right? I guess the remaining 84% have their broadband totally jacked up 😛

Thanks a lot!
