If you want speeds like beam, the only alternative is YOU broadband.

Any others like this ? I remember reading about a couple more but just can't recollect the names of the those ISPs

umm .. are you talking about Fivenet and Spectranet? Or ACT broadband? All the above mentioned ISPs doesn't operate in hyderabad

I had called on Tuesday to get a connection on Saturday. They very promptly responded and told me I will be getting the connection. Then I received a call on Thursday that they were ready to install but since I was busy I told them to come on Saturday. When I didnt get a call today I called the same number from which I got the call on Thursday. And then I was told that some box is not available and it will take 15-20 days.Is this a genuine reason (if so, why was he ready to install on Thursday) or some lame excuse to hide another problem?

My best guess is they are really busy with connectivity issues..

I got an sms from Beam warning me about possible disruptions due to cable cuts.. due Ganesha Transportation and rains ....

When a box is not there, it usually takes 10-15 days for them to install it and complete the wiring. And I got the same SMS as LaysyDesi which could explain the delay as well.

I have been without internet for nearly 3 weeks and am very angry. Is there any other good ISP such as Reliance in Mehdipatnam area? I just disconnected BSNL so I am looking for something different.

Even the same thing happened to me. Told i would be getting a connection in 2 weeks since one owner first gave permission to install the box but again refused. So placed a request and after 3 weeks they themselves called and said they were ready for installation. Just call him one more time and ask for a definite timeframe and say that its imp and you are without internet and you need only beam. Since i've heard good reviews at mehdipatnam, iwould suggest waiting it out. Apart from beam, you have YOU telecom and then BSNL has also some good plans specially for hyderabad users.

I have been calling him regularly. Everytime there is some delay or the other. He said he would come today but no phone call as usual. I already told him I was getting scolded at home since I disconnected BSNL because he said he would come soon. What is the cost of setting up this box? He said it costs 72k.And where would he install it? Inside somebody's house or the terrace of the apartments?Someone in my apartments already has Beam he told me. But when I asked him how they got it he said they transferred their connection while moving in and some technical jargon which I could not understand. The bottom line is that I am suffering for Beam's assurance of a quick connection.

wtf? 72k? noway! It looks like a small box. From each box 8 connections can be given out. That box needs power so they'll pay owner 50Rs every month. Its can be installed either on terrace or on outside wall but not inside house.you say someone in your apartments already has beam ..well that should mean there's a box nearby. am guessing people already have 8 connections so they are setting up another box nearby. Beam has shitty customer care (see this forum) but their service and speed has been good till now. YOU telecom has horror stories all over this forum and am yet to see a positive review about them. That leaves BSNL which surprisingly has stable connection but speeds are low.

That box needs power so they'll pay owner 50Rs every month.
Just curious, What happens if there's a power failure?

So, they just install a switch? Will they give 50 Rs per complex? And have you heard anything about Pace internet?

umm i seriously don't know anything about tech. 😕 Just know that there will be a box out of which 8 connections is possible. Not 50rs per complex ..just 50rs pm to flat owners association. It needs very little power am told.

From what I hear they are not paying that 50 per month to anyone. If some flat or house is willing to volunteer they install it at that my place. I have a box installed at my place...so the person installing it told me this bit of info.

They initially offered free internet connection for 1 year ..but since our terrace already has shit load of boxes for cable guys and other ISPs ..we told them not possible. But last year we cleared all those wires and now only have beam box with one wire going into it and 8 wires coming out. It pays us 50rs every month with 5rs increase every year.
