I do not know about Airtel introducing new plans in February, but I noticed that they increased my FUP limit from 5GB to 25GB without any additional charges from this billing cycle. I am on the Combo 499 plan (1Mbps until 25GB and 256kbps beyond that).Maybe it is a hint of better things to come! I am kind of dismayed that Airtel made this change without informing me. I opted for Reliance BB last week because of the 5GB limit imposed originally on this plan. Now they increased it to 25GB, which is more than ample for my daily requirements. Since I held on to my Airtel BB connection, I came to know about this new development.

@neevarpHow did you come to know that your FUP limit has increased?

Used the smartbytes link posted by mukul. I contacted the customer care and confirmed the increase in the FUP limit too. Still no idea about why they showed mercy towards me :nevreness: The 5GB limit which was originally present in this plan was a royal pain in the posterior. Since I am connected to several international trading platforms 24x5, 5GB = five days of usage for me.

Like I mentioned, perhaps this is a sign of better things to come.

In some circles and areas where connection density is low, the FUP limits are not strictly enforced. was it 5 GB for you before? Are you sure it has inceased recently?

Yes. I am absolutely sure about the limit. The entire idea behind me taking this connection was that they never enforced the 5GB limit back in 2010. For about 1.5 years or so, it was pure bliss. 1Mbps UL for 499/-. But by September 2011, they started enforcing this 5GB limit like clockwork. Every month, once I completed the 5GB limit, the speed would automatically revert to 256kbps. I was able to circumvent it by restarting the modem occasionally - until I began to realize that I was being FUPed for real and that there was no turning back now.

I hoped for that miracle to occur (Airtel once again slacking and me getting to enjoy 1Mbps UL for 499/-). But it did not occur. So last week I switched to Reliance BB so that I may experiment with their services. Yesterday, out of some unknown curiosity, I switched on the Airtel modem and logged into the smartbytes page. I couldn't believe whatever that was happening. Contacted the customer care and they confirmed it. In fact, they were adamant that my plan's FUP was 25GB only...not 5GB (well, you can guage the knowledge levels of the customer care personnel)!

The plan is listed as the last entry. The FUP used to be 5GB. Now they have increased it to 25GB.

Awesome, Thanks for the detailed explanation. :Boy Hi 5:you are right about the September 2011 part. This was the time frame when my account was brought under the FUP as well. I guess they bring certain areas into the FUP periodically depending on the growth of the connections there. But its great that they finally increasing the limits of the lower plans. Hope that translates into increase for bigger plans as well, even though I havent seen one in my plan

One of my friends called up the Air-tel CC today to en-quire about a change of plan. And the CC person informed him that Airtel is working on introducing a new plan, where by the post FUP limits would be 512 KBPS! However they did not give a time line as to when this would become operational.. I just hope the CC person meant what she said and this turns out to be true 🙂And FYI this friend of mine is located in Chennai.

eventually, it would happen. but in the near future? i would be surprised. airtel is showing insane amount of complacency. hard to believe they would do anything good in the near future.

Airtel CC is clueless when it comes to these things, and I think their replies are based more on hearsay around the office, rather than on any actual announcment made to them

and of course, they speak a lot of shit to retain customers or stop them from switching to a cheaper plan!
