BSNL Broadband New Plans effective 01-02-2012 - Karnataka

The new broadband plans from BSNL have been announced officially.

ULD1350 limit is increased to 30 GB. :urock:
Most of the other plans will have minimum 512Kpbs.
Now time to change the plan.

Typically BSNL!!!!These plans are pathetic. After waiting for so many years for plan upgradation, this is what the unfortunate BSNL customers get. BSNL is unable to think in Mbps, and still stuck with 512kbps in their mind. Other than BBG Combo 299, no other plan seems good. BBG Home ULD 499, and BBG Home Combo 625 are meaningless. No sane user will pay more for megre 4GB bandwidth (at 512Kbps) where they can get Unlimited 512kbps @ 299/-. BBG Combo ULD 850 and BB Home Combo ULD 900 are also not financially viable. Combo 299 is still better here. I think more customers will shift to Combo 299 and BSNL will lose revenue in the end. Higher Plans like ULD 1350, 1700 and higher are much better though. However, after FUP, the speeds drop to 256kbps from 4Mbps which is unacceptable. BSNL could have given atleast 512kbps after FUP, if not 1 Mbps. Whereas MTNL, another Govt. Company gives 1 Mbps unlimited connection @ 999/- and 2 Mbps unlimited @ 1899/-, I fail to understand why BSNL refuses to give 1 Mbps unlimited and why it charges Rs.9000/- p.m. for 2 Mbps unlimited connection. These plans show that BSNL management is braindead, no wonder they made BSNL a sick company. Now, we have no other alternative but to wait for another 3 years or so, for another pathetic plan upgrade, unless of course, BSNL dies in the mean time, or by God's grace, some broadband miracle happens to the BSNL customers.

If this is true, then it worsen the plan drastically. 1 GB limit in 2012?? Should it be called hilarious, or moronic.

BSNL has suddenly turned into perhaps one of the best or second best ISP in India within a few days. This month has been my best month for browsing the internet and I was not FUPed the whole month instead of watching loads of youtube videos etc. regularly. Great to know that the new plans are now official. I am on the 1700 UL Plan and the 100 GB FUP limit is more than enough to be honest at least for me. In fact, Airtel provides 75 GB FUP for that price if I am not incorrect. So, a master stroke from BSNL for sure. And to be honest, BSNL customer support is still better than Beam or ACT etc. from what I have heard of reviews. If only they could increase the upload speeds to something like 1 - 2 Mbps it would have been icing on the cake. 😛 But to be honest, with the change in the plan speeds BSNL has become the best ISP suddenly especially for 1700 or above plans. Hooray! Finally after a lot of years I am quite satisfied with BSNL. 😀

I noticed one interesting thing in the plans. It seems there are improvement in the lower plans too. It is mentioned that the 299 plan is now 512 kbps unlimited. But that was the case with the 750 plan. But I do not see any revision for the 750 UL Plan in that sheet. So, why would somebody pay Rs.750 for that plan if they can get the same 512 kbps UL for only Rs.299. Hmmm

Existing plan of Combo 299 is with speed 256Kbps with 1 GB limit. It is not unlimited only the speed is revised to 512kbps.

The FUP for 1700 is 100 GB from 40GB which is definitely a boom compared to competition and yes the only drawback would be 256 kbps post FUP. However the 1350 plan FUP is increased from 20GB to 30 GB with 512kbps post FUP.

Any update in rural plans?

I don't know why people are assuming that the BBG Combo 299 is an unlimited plan. Nowhere is that implied in the pdf. All unlimited plans carry either UL (flat speed, no FUP) or ULD (FUP, with reduced speed post limit). I guess BSNL didn't feel the need to explicitly mention the data limit for 299, in the PDF, since that document only shows the changes to plans, and the data allowance for Combo 299 hasn't changed.Anyway, some of the higher end plans have gotten a good upgrade at least, particularly the 1700 and 2150 ones. 4 Mbps with 100 GB and 175 GB FUP respectively is quite decent, though the post-FUP speed should have been 512 Kbps at least. Doesn't TRAI mandate that a connection has to be 512 Kbps at a minimum to be called "broadband"? I thought that this rule was in effect from the start of 2011.Are these plans going to be available for all circles from the 1st of February? I am interested in the 2150 one, in the Rajasthan circle.

Well whatever, something is better than nothing !Even marginal improvement's like this is always appreciated (When we are at BSNL's mercy)P.S: BSNL is the only wired provider here, Airtel & Reliance are only about 2-3 streets away but wouldn't expand their network even after 4-5yrs

@ExOblivione, As per TRAI, the minimum speed for a connection to be termed as broadband is 256 kbps & not 512 kbps.

I remember reading multiple places that TRAI had redefined the minimum speed to 512 Kbps. Checking online, I find a number of articles that say that too.

"In the National Broadband Plan, which was prepared in December last year, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) suggested that minimum broadband speed should be increased to 512kbps from January 1, 2011."

I guess that TRAI can only make suggestions, which the others just ignore 😛
