I checked out a couple of dealers and none of the TV LED, Plasma, LCD played regular cable as sharp as the CRT TV. Is it because the dealer said he has shared the signal from single STB to more than one TV? my primary use will be cable for more than 50% of the time. the Demo video on these TVs were good.

One dealer clearly upselled Sony where there is not much of a bargain. Another one offered no bargain on Sony discounted price but offered freebies. It appears for Samsung, LG and other plama models, you can bargain up to 10%. Toshiba, videocon, Philips, Onida, they are not interested in selling even though they have it showcased.

On LED v Plasma, i will suggest LED on any given day.

It saves lot of power as compared to Plasma. To give u a direct comparison, if Plasma consumes 10 units for say 10 hours, then LED will consume just 2 units for that many hours.
Next, if u r viewing TV in illuminated environment, especially with Sunlight, then it becomes really difficult to watch on Plasma.
Then theres the issue of image burn-in. If a scene stays somewhat still for a while, then it will still stay with a shadow like effect when the scene changes!
Further, a 42" LED will support 1080p resolution, but if u want to buy a Plasma, u have to look for 50 inchers. EFFECTIVELY, UR COST WILL STILL STAY THE SAME.

Plasma according to me, is an outdated technology. Now u will ask "Y is it that so many Plasma models are being promoted?"

So my answer is, being outdated tech its cost has reduced and prices are still pretty high. Obviously margins wud be higher in that technology!

However, having said all this, Plasma is still the option to go if u watch fast paced stuff, like Action movies, Sports, etc......
Next, if ur room is large enuf, then i guess on any day i wud prefer to have 50" 1080p screen, in place of 42" 1080p screen.

Did u go to the electronic chains to check out? If no, then i reckon u shud. 1 conspiracy theory applicable here cud be that the dealer wants to sell u the CRT, which wud ultimately be a non-moving stock for him.

If ur need is a wide screen TV, u shud go for it. A 29" CRT cannot serve the utility of a 42" LED or 50" Plasma.

And to your question - i m not very clear as to sharing of single connection with multiple TVs affects the output or not. Let the others comment.

LED - is the best technology out there right now. until the OLEDs hit the market in like 5 years or so.1080p - Yes even here in the US, the broadcasts are not true HD ( I get 720p on Verizon FioS, which is the best ISP in the US). I use my 55 inch LG LED 3D mostly to watch 3D blu-rays and play games on my xbox and PS3. There are a few games that are 1080p, but cricket ones are 720p max...so far.Plasma, although might look better initially ( I think it is in its 10th or 11th generation), uses a lot more power like Jaymin said, and another thing is that as time goes on ( in a few years), it loses it brightness.....this is not the case with LCD/LED. I also agree that LG is on par with Samsung and Sony(markets like hell but you mostly pay for their brand name), but I liked and went with LG because of its passive 3D technology. ( cheap glasses and easier on the eyes with no flickering like active glasses)..if you want the biggest and cheapest set, then i'd go with DLP technology....it is already outdated...and I think only Mitsubishi makes them now.hope this helps..

no, it depends on viewing distance

if its more than 10feet then you wont notice 1080p on 32, but if its 6-7 feet ; you would notice the difference

use HDTV Size - Viewing Distance , to calculate the size of hdtv you should get
of course. I presumed people watch TV from at least 10-15 feet away. he isn't buying it as a monitor.

Btw, i read about this DLP technology for the first time. I didnt even knew that any such tech existed.......time to google around a bit!

Thanks Jaymin, I am thinking of LED or an LCD not plasma,
What is electronic chains? googled it but dont see what it means
No, both the dealers never had any CRT TV show cased. I compared it against my current CRT TV.

I am now thinking of a 40" full HD LCD TV. playing both LCD and LED simultaneously with same video, i did not notice much difference. But LCDs are lot cheaper compared to LEDs. Dealers talked about black colors being very black in LED tv against LCDs. But it seems this difference will be noticable only when you watch TV in total dark room. In my case i may not see TV in Total darkness. Also i realized that these LED TVs are edge lit. meaning there is no LED behind every pixel but only on the corners of the LCD screen. So the difference is instead of a cfl lamp in an LCD there is an LED in an LCD TV. TRUE LED TVs are mind blowingly costly. after knowing this, i am inclined towards LCDs which are cheaper and established technology.

Other than true black, few more watts of power saving, do edge lit LEDs have more advantages?

Practically, apart from the ones u mentioned theres another difference that overall, the colors look lot more truer in LED. And i dont know if this matters u, but LEDs are lot slimmer than LCDs.Richer black in LEDs, means a lot.....its not just restricted to viewing in dark rooms.Lastly, on electronic chains.....i meant to say Next, Vijay Sales, Croma, and such stores which are large scale outlets.

the only advantage LEDs have over plasma is that they consume less power . Plasma and local dimming LEDs provide about same picture quality . unless you really, really care about energy saving , i'd suggest plasma over LEDs as local-dimming LED TVs cost atleast 30-40k more than a plasma which provides the same picture quality .

just see in these articles that LED TVs which got same score as plasma TVs cost about $600-700 more than than plasma TVs .i bought my parents an LED an year ago when i didn't know much about TVs and bought a plasma for myself giving even better picture quality for 25k less just 2 months after buying the LED . you won't even save that much in energy savings unless you plan on using the same TV for another 8-9 years with really heavy use of 10+ hours everyday .
if you're going to be buying a 3D HDTV then have a look at

unless you pay attention to every little thing like me , most good brand TVs(Panasonic, samsung,Sony for india) will provide good picture quality whether its an LED or plasma .

I checked out few more dealers and also tried LCD, LEDs of LG, SAMSUNG, Sony models side by side all of them together. There is a small difference in each of these brands under each of these types (LCD, LED) when watching them side by side. Sony LED EX550 was infact the most vibrant with colors. However, we are not always going to see side by side. I went for a FULL HD LG LCD 32" which fit my pocket. Thanks for all your comments and guidance.

Yep! Congrats for ur new TV. In the end u only will be the best person to judge what best suits u. That shud be the practice - take inputs from people but make ur own decision in the end.

Congrats on your purchase. How much did you pay for FULL HD LG LCD 32"?I think 32" Samsung/LG full HD LED TVs (non-3D) are available for around Rs. 36,000 /-

Hi, i want to Buy a LCD TV 32", which should be supported External HDD.

I search and i found Samsung series5, 550 model will support External HDD but the cost is 36,000/- (showroom price is 30 - 32K).

Will LG-32LK430 will support External HDD, with MKV, avi format?

Which brand should i go?
----------

In LG site they mentioned that its supports Divx HD, but they dont mention that it will support .mkv (H.264) format.

They Mentioned the following format only
Movie(*.mpg/*.mpeg/*dat/*.ts/*.trp/*.tp/*. vob/*.mp4/*.mov/*.divx/*.avi/*. wmv/*.avi(motion-jpeg)/*. mp4(motion-jpeg)
Video format : DivX3.11, DivX4.12, DivX5.x, DivX6, Xvid1.00, Xvid1.01, Xvid1.02, Xvid1.03, Xvid1.10 beta-1/beta-2,
Mpeg-1, Mpeg-2, Mpeg-4, H.264/AVC, VC1, JPEG, Sorenson H.263

TVs usually do not have powerful encoders inside, i doubt if they can play hd files. Best to buy one without usb support and spend 4k on a media device which can play almost all formats.
