Concerned about the rise in fatal road accidents involving two-wheelers in the city, Pune police commissioner, Meeran Chadha Borwankar, said on Thursday that wearing helmets will soon be made mandatory.

The city police chief recently ordered the staff to wear helmets while riding motorcycles. She said, “Now, we want the citizens also to adopt this rule. We will proceed slowly as I am told that it was not successful in the past.” The mandatory helmet rule was withdrawn due to opposition from various parties and organisations.

In January 2010, the traffic police had begun imposing a fine of Rs100 for not wearing helmets. However, the fine is being imposed only if two-wheeler riders violate otherrules, like jumping signals or lane cutting

heh. i assumed that because of the supreme court regulation, helmets were compulsory throughout the country 😕

Well, helmets are not compulsory in Kalyan and nearby areas. I bought the helmet just a week back, 6 months after purchasing my bike. I bought it only after I was caught without helmet at Kalyan - Navi Mumbai road.

correct me if i am wrong, but has anyone noticed that we tend to be more reckless when we are are more protected?

Very true. We never think about its advantages. I don't like wearing helmet because it feels as if someone is sitting on my head (I spent 1.7k on getting Vega Boolean which is a bit lighter in weight), although it's just a matter of time when I can get used to it. It should really be made compulsory so that we get used to it, just like people in Mumbai.

OMG! this happened last night!

Friend bought new Fazer so we went for a ride. . i wore an helmet and drove . .my friend started screaming. .i stopped and asked why are you screaming?

He said "dude! watch the speed . .you were going in excess of 90kmph"

Since i wore helmet . .i couldnt hear engine sound clearly and the plexi glass of helmet prevented the feeling of breeze on my face. .so i couldnt know how fast i was going.
