Conventional treatment of TB involves a multi-drug therapy lasting over 6-9 months. In India, we have the DOTS treatment regime.

Unfortunately, in many cases, patients stop treatment as soon as the symptoms subside, which results in the tubercle bacterium staying put in the individual. This can then resurface in the same individual or spread to others as MDR-TB or TDR-TB.
