I'm having a old 160GB IDE hard disk. I'm going to buy a Intel Atom based mother board which does not have IDE ports. I tried to ask a shopkeeper for an SATA to IDE adapter like this one, but he said that such adaptors are not available as they mostly end up in failure. Is it true? I have spotted a few sellers in ebay offering a SATA to IDE converter, and just want to know from you guys whether it is advisable to buy it?

Don't bother. I have tried this from five different makes. Four didn't worked at all. One got detected, but the system kept crashing due to this.
