Samsung selling GT-I9100G as GT-I9100 in India (crappier hardware version of Galaxy S II)

UPDATE: Called up service center yesterday for an update on the cheque and to my utter shock they said it will take 45days.
When i submitted the handset they said it will be given to me within a week.
Today i got call from samsung 2 times and they said 45 days is a not the case but it can take upto 15-20days.

Legal notice has already been sent to them i guess the calls were in response to that notice only.

Now should i press on response for notice, and turn on the heat on them or shall i wait?

u must have got proof of returning the mobile???? i think if yes then u can wait.

I too brought a Samsung Galaxy S2 from ebay.in and finally had the same problem as aviral... got a GT-I9100G... Roped in Akosha and have sent them a legal notice on 13/01/2012. Awaiting a reply from them. Hope my phone gets replaced or the money is refunded back so that i can go and buy it in a store. Online buying still is a problem in India and with people like Samsung ready to cheat customers, its going to be a bad experience.

I think Toocool is ryt. If u have the proof of returning the fone, then u r pretty much covered. Else u shud not wait for more than 2-3 days counting today.

Hi aviral sangal , You did great job by exposing this to everyone, but the best part is have just ordered for Samsung Galaxy S2 with Sulekha hardly 6 hrs back. So can you advice me whether i can go ahead for purchase or can i cancel the order.RegardsRamu

I wud suggest u ask the number that was being earlier discussed in the thread, to the dealer. On page 1 of the thread, in the first post itself, Aviral has put up a screenshot, which shows the long model number of the i9100G phone. U can identify this piece from that long model number. So if that dealer quotes this particular number that Aviral has shown, then u can pretty much cancel the order.

he ordered from sulekha. and if he paid for it already, it would be tough to cancel the order. check the policies with sulekha.

also... from what i have read around... the G model is not necessarily bad. the problem is that it is being sold in few markets around the world so there are few custom ROMs available online.

for most users, it should not affect the purchase much. it is still a dual core phone. of course it sucks to be sold a product that is not what you imagined it would be based on what you have read online...

Oh yes. I forgot to mention that point about Sulekha. I m not aware of its policies, but forgot to mention the disclaimer! And i guess the problem with the G model is the 1 u mentioned......that the company is selling a different product than what it is intending u to buy. And with a marginally reduction in hardware performance, i feel the price of this model shud be marginally less than the other model as well. So thats another issue according to me.

ok. is it an established fact that the hardware specifications on the G model are less? it might be a different processor but that does not mean that it is a low performance processor? i did read somewhere that the hardware on the newer variant is pretty close to what you get on Galaxy nexus...

There isnt much of a difference....as i said - Marginal. And i did see the link provided in 1 of the other threads. Except for 1 or 2 aspects, the G model is marginally behind the other model.

The gpu sgx540 which is the same as Galaxy nexus is clearly inferior to Mali 400. I guess for people who run only the stock rom it won't matter much. But for people who want custom rom support etc it would be a deal breaker because the g model would see almost nil custom rom development.

Yes i have a job sheet where it is mentioned i have returned the phone with box

If you dont want I9100G then cancel the order ASAP. sulekha is only selling G model.

Online stores will never show the whole model number 🙁

Its processor is capped at 1008Mhz, Different chipset (you cant run application specifically meant for SGS2), Different GPU, Lower 3G modem, camera app most of the times become unavailable.

----------

Moreover the apps that are specifically for SGS2 in samsung app world also do not work on G model as it do not let you download the app because of the model number.

Update is they say refund has been approved. This was told to me on Wednesday. That time told me that by weekend i will get the cheque. Today they now say by friday.
