Hi,As you may have read from my post in the general Broadband forum, I am interested in getting a connection as fast as possible. I have had a look at MTNL's Trib Cyber plans, and the A plan seem to be quite ok for what I need (Video / Voice over IP, FTPing).Anyone has comments on the quality/reliability/length of setup... of this ISP in general, and for such offers in Mumbai in particular? I would be especially interested to hear from users in the Breach Candy area.Cheers,Tom

YO WHite Boy, On 1 Mbps i.e 100KB/s download speed,I don't think you will get any glitches in Video / Voice over IP.Download speed reduces if u are too far from the exchange!!Cyber A and B are used by Small companies,Newspaper and all those corporate user.Even some Cyber cafe owner use them.Home user won't take that plan.Regarding Quality ,THis isp is like Always ON DSL better than any other ISP available in mumbai excepts it lacks 24 hours UNLIMITED plan and speed greater than 2Mbps.I stay just few kilometer away from your area.Place a link to your Blog ,I will like to visit it!ON MTNL UPLOADS are free .....

i just got a new connection in Breach Candy, the CO (central office) is the cumballa hill CO. Although i got the 256k Nights unlimited plan, i've had no issues with it and happy with MTNL in general.mrj

YO WHite Boy,[/b]
No racist remarks please.

Tom, the service of MTNL is quite good. Downtime is negligible. But if you're thinking of having near 100% uptime then I recommend getting a redundant connection since sometimes the lines go down due to heavy rains and such so the connection might not work for extended periods of time. For a redundant connection I would recommend getting a fixed wireless phone from Reliance or TATA Indicom.

Umm...I'm not an admin. I just felt that such remarks shouldn't be passed. It might hurt someones sentiments.

yes I agree with Max, such remarks can be hurting to someone, its better that u edit ur post, just a suggestion....

No offense taken, don't worry! Though I admit it's alway better to be on the safe side 😀As for the offers, I got the answer from the MTNL guys: the Trib Cyber plans are in fact reserved for cyber cafés, and are not accessible to private customers 🙁 Of course, it's out of the question to take the outrageously expensive DSL Silver or Premium plans, so I am still open to suggestions for 1Mbp+ connexions (preferrably unlimited, at least on the hours side).Cheers,Tom

As we said MTNL downtime is equal to zero.Even if you manage to get some cabel connection satisfing your needsDowntime is preety sure to occur!Hey bro why would you need such a high connection ...??don't tell me you are going to start your own Bpo here 😛If that is the case how about one time long investment and aproaching direct DOn of all VSNL.Get a leased line from VSNL.If you want to stick with Mtnl then at present you got only 2 choices for 1 Mbps

"High connection" depends on standards 😀 Back in France, you would not find 1Mbps simply because it is too slow...
Don't worry, it's juste that I'm doing some high bandwidth consuming things: Video over IP (at 512, it's still far from smooth) and FTPing large pictures and videos from my digital camera to share with friends (at 24 Mbps in France, I could do it almost in streaming so I hope I can find anything with stable FTP transfer rates over 80 kbps ; just count, even at 150 kbps, uploading or downloading a 200MB video is still half an hour...).
As for the leased line, good idea but 1/ I expect outrageous cost and 2/ it will probably be reserved for corporates.

I think I'll stick to the wifi connections of the nearby hotel lobby (with transfer rates of about 50kbps, it is ok for basic needs) till I get fully settled; I am under the impression that new schemes are coming from everywhere these days, so hopefully there will be some decent 1Mbps availability in January (unlimited, let's dream 😛 )

Cheers,
Tom

You're under the wrong impression....1Mbps at an affordable price and that too unlimited? 🙄 You're an optimist 😉
