Reva NXR will be launched by Mahindra in the first quarter of 2012.

Some benefits of owning a REVA NXR -

* Freedom from varying fuel prices – To hell with the petrol pump!
* Environment-conscious motorists earn karma points – Didn’t they tell you life is about feeling good?
* Some corporates provide subsidies for purchasing an electric vehicle and offer electricity (only to charge the car!) at discounted rates/free of cost
* Feeling of owning a unique set of wheels – The attraction it gains at every traffic signal gives you a taste of what Veyron owners go through!
* Lowered service cost – No oils, filters and belts to change
* Instant torque of an electric motor – Imagine an engine that has a sweet spot throughout the RPM band
* Silent, vibration-free operation provides improved passenger comfort; Music lovers will appreciate this more as the audio quality is much better.

Priced approx 4 - 5 Lacs

Any idea of range?

top speed of 104 Km/h (65 mph) and a range of 150 Km per charge

Will it be sufficient for day to day city life?

Depends on how power the AC uses.

But otherwise for daily city use it should be OK (barring battery replacement costs)

How many hours to recharge the battery full approx ? 4 to 5 hours or more like 8 hours?Considering GM's colt and Toyota Prius battery/petrol hybrid's are selling north of $40k,pure battery (though light and not so safe against any major accident) @ $ 10k looks ok. (petrol north of Rs 70)for city driving.

I won't mind charging them for 7/8 hours if one charge can give 100plus kms. In b'lore daily I travel within 50 kms range (to & fro) for office.
I guess majority of daily commuters travels within range of 70/80 Kms. While petrol crossing Rs. 100/- by Sept 2012, I think EV is a warm welcome.

I wish the General Motors EV1 was still available for purchase. Reva is a joke in front of GM EV1.

Forget reva or this old car from GM...Tesla is the electric car maker to look out for. If we ignore the import duty and other taxes... Tesla Model S is an incredible machine for the price they are charging for it in America. Of course Americans are not used to paying high price for their cars. We here in India buy similar models are much higher prices. Too bad India is not going to be on radar of Tesla for a long time to come.

Is it $60,000? = Rs. 31,86,000 approx

Too expensive for India too I guess.

reva is not a great value for money at 5-6L right? and it is being manufactured in india. tesla of course would cost at least double that price in india :) but the fact remains... it is not a hybrid. it is an electric supercar. something that could do well if sold in india at reasonable prices. of course it is not going to sell a lot of units for 65L. but it would find a niche audience in india. :)
