I am planning to buy a USB data card. Usage would be primarily for general browsing and some stock market trade softwares, around 1.5 GB per month. Is it advisable to buy a third party device like Huawei UMG1381 or E353 or should I go for devices provided by Tata like Poton Plus or Vodafone 3G USB Stick? For my usage what device speed would be enough?

Also, snapdeal is offering Tata Photon Plus for Rs 1200, which includes 1 month usage of 5GB, with speeds of upto 3.1 Mbps. Tata Docomo Photon Plus - Discount Coupon - India - Snapdeal.com

Is it worth? Also, is photon plus unlockable, if I intend to shift to Vodafone after a few months?

Which company provides better coverage?
 
I use mobile broadband to run charting+Trading software like "Think Or swim"(TOS) and Quote Tracker ( Us brokerages) for quite some time.

I have used Tataphoton Plus for 1 year or so. But for the last 1 year or so only 3G data cards ( no ADSL broadband )

Forget propreitory CDMA data cards like Tata photon Plus / reliance net connect / MTS. Even though signal strength inside the house usually good, they hardly give 1 mbps at best.

Get any 7.2 mbps GSM data card ( now around rs 1000) If you buy Operater provided data card ( Vodaphone,Aircel etc) , it will be locked. :tasty:

I use around 10 Gb minimum /month for live streaming data.

Since you say 2-3 Gb will do you can check signal strength in your house with any 3 G operator with a small 3 G recharge and then do 2 - 4 Gb data pack

No. Even if you unlock because Tata Photon Plus device runs on CDMA network and Vodafone 3G SIM will be GSM.
 
There is a promotion in Aircel 7.2 mbps data cards in South. (Huawei E1750 c ) with 3 GB free data valid 30 days.If Aircel is present in your area, Drop in and see whether you can get the data card below rs 1000 with free data.It is locked and easily unlocked with unlock code easily obtained in the web.( no need to down load unlocker software or flashing etc)I hear reliance GSM data cards are not not locked.(not net connect) Huawei cards E 173, 1732, 1750c etc are all good and value for money. I think you need to check which 3G GSM operator has good signal in your house by getting the sims one by one and keep it in 3G phone and check signal strength.Data card capacity ( 3.6/7.2/14/21 mbps ) is different from what signal strength you get from which provider ( Aircel/Voda/Airtel,Idea,Tata docomo,Reliance etc)??photon is not that bad. I have used in the past for more than 1 year. but not worth buying now when there are so many options in 3G.

You can use 2G sim in 7.2 mbps data card.But the data card you buy in the show room will be locked. so you will be restricted to same operator 2G sim/pack recharge only.Right now Aircel has discontinued Huawei E1750c and giving ZTE MF190A with 3GB data free (1 GB/month for 3 months) in chennai.The price is not as cheap in AP. They might quote you anywhere from Rs1400-1800.ZTE data card is not worth the trouble. Unlocking is not as simple as Huawei cards.Airtel sells locked E1731 for rs 1500+ in their showrooms.(dealers will be cheaper)Idea sells locked E1732 for Rs 1500 (with 3 Gb free). get pre paid,un lock and use up the free data and throw it away and use any sim you want.ORGet from Ebay unlocked E173/1731/1732/1750 between rs 1250-1375 .Mediapartner works for all Huawei cards.
 
Any idea about e1831 - 21mbps dongle.I need some clarifications, can you give your mobile num so that i would call you ?.
 
I have unlocked Huawei E1731 purchased with Airtel connection & it rocks. Great device with excellent speed. I highly recommend it.
