Hi all,I have some questions about MTNL, I'm thinking of switching to it from Airtel due to the crappy FUP. I would be grateful if any of you who currently has MTNL can answer a few questions. I'll provide as much info as I can here.1. I'm in Delhi how is the service here?2. How much are the installation charges and how much are the monthly fixed charges for the equipment?3. Is the telephone device and modem mandatory? Or I can use my own telephone equipment and modem.4. What is the downtime in a month? And is the bandwidth constant (I heard MTNL provides shared bandwidth)5. Any experience with their FTTH plans?I plan to use my own WiFi router (it's only a router, not a modem), I'm thinking of their Rs 999 1mbps unlimited plan since my use of the internet is heavy and I need high speeds.Sorry, if these questions have been asked alot. I'm asking you guys who've used or are using MTNL here and your personal experience with MTNL.I've been with Airtel for 3 years or so and there hasn't been a single minute of downtime, it's just their crappy FUP and their forcefully migrating me to their other crappy plans that has me looking towards MTNL.I hope you guys can help me, I'm thinking of getting a new connection in the next month or so.Thank you in advance 🙂

bump, no one?

I have been using MTNL 3G can tell you bit experience about it but wont recommend it wired connection is much better

in Delhi only option left is 1650 unltd plan in 3G. So better to go for wired BB.

Service in some areas its totally crap like mine and other areas might be good. CC is not good, but mtnl people are nice but its not really easy to get a simple problem solved if people don't even know about it. You can search my experience and others above link.

Also MTNL 3G DC and stalls like anything if there is no proper network like in my case.

In short its great for downloading but suxs for me for all other stuff like Ytbe and all since I end up refreshing the video twice..thrice before I can watch it.

For Wired one it is 999 IMBps and 1899 2 MBps get any of the 2 should be fine mtnl BB is good in Delhi.

Thank you very much. Yes, I've heard that MTNL 3G is not good. That's why I'm going for a BB connection. Airtel only wants our money that's all, they're migrating everyone with old plans to their new crap plans. I guess I'll go with MTNL for a month and see how it goes. Thanks for the reply 🙂

I'm in Delhi how is the service here?
Been pretty good, i have been using it for 4 years. Max down time i have seen is about 2 hours(server side), However if there is wiring problem you need to contact the local lines man. He usually sits in my colony, so its easy to get a hold of him.

Any experience with their FTTH plans?
Its not really launching wide spread any time soon, probably about a year till its available wide spread. I asked the guy at customer service and he says you need like 300 users in you area before the fiber line is laid.

Is the telephone device and modem mandatory? Or I can use my own telephone equipment and modem.
Its not, i have my own modem + router and i don't pay any monthly rental or fixed charge for it.

I'm thinking of their Rs 999 1mbps unlimited plan since my use of the internet is heavy and I need high speeds.
I'm currently using this plan, don't be fooled, its not 1 Mbps, i get an actual download speed of about 120 kbps.
I have applied to migrate to the 1295 freedom plan, and from what i heard people do get close to 2 mbps (about 1.8 mbps actually)

Cool, so I guess I'll have to be friendly with the lines man xD May I ask where in Delhi are you?

That's a bummer :/ Most people in my area are using Airtel.

Cool. I'll use theirs for a few months and then buy my own 🙂
I don't have their landline, so I think I'll have to pay for their crappy telephone device rental as well?

120kbps in a 1Mbps connection is good, it's supposed to be 128kbps (1024/8) but oh well 8kbps won't hurt much xD

Thanks a bunch for the reply! 🙂

I also just came to know that there's also a fixed monthly charge on telephone line? WTH? So, I'll pay for the broadband AND telephone line. Airtel doesn't charge anything for the telephone :/
Or, is the MTNL website too old and not giving out new info? 😛

Yeah, I hate FUP. The monthly cost of MTNL's connection (including the service charge for telephone) comes out to be around 1300 something. Heck, I can get the 1299 plan of Airtel (1430 incl. tax) 2mbps with 30GB FUP. Man I'm confused, if MTNL wants new customers they have to provide a no rental for all plans.

Delhites are living in copper age, If you pay 3-4k in other countries....you will get 25mbit+ fax, phone+ IPTV.frustrating fact, right?

Absolutely frustrating. I think the corporate folks are paying our 'beloved' netas to not make the Internet and other stuff cheap just so that they can reap millions from us. We need something like Beam Fiber in Delhi 😀

OK, just an update. I got a new MTNL BB connection UL 999 Combo today, the guy set it up (I wasn't at home). I checked that the speed is only 512kbps using SpeedTest :/ I tried both MTNL's speed test and speedtest.net one. Really, I though I paid for the 1mbps plan? Does anyone else experienced something like this? The highest it goes is upto 560 or something kbps and that too for just a millisecond.I even lodged a complaint, but I know that MTNL isn't good at customer service :/Is this something normal with MTNL?Here's the modem info (Model: 410TC1): Down UpSNR Margin: 33.5 9.5 db Line Attenuation: 45.0 24.5 db Data Rate: 576 505 kbps Attainable Rate: 13208 2189 kbps

Data Rate: 576 505 kbps
Get this fixed, to something like 1024 or 2048 kbps. They've synced you at 512k.

Also, the attenuation is high, though I don't think you can do much about that.

Thanks for that. I though so, it had something to do on their side. How should I go about telling them that? Since I already lodged a complaint and talked to the customer service guy and I doubt he'll know what the "Data Rate" and "Line Attenuation" are lol

Just keep telling them you're getting low speeds. If they dont fix it, call up your sde and tell him to correct the sync rate.Attenuation will only improve if your line is changed, shouldnt be a matter of concern if your connection is stable.
