Thanks alot for the info x720! They called today and asked if the connection is working. I explained to the line man that the problem was from their end (their exchange probably) and he said he he'll forward the message to the exchange. Hopefully, it will get resolved by tomorrow, but I won't hold my breath 😛

Btw, who's an SDE? and how can I get their contact info?

----------

I'm asking just in case the problem doesn't get resolved by tomorrow.

SDE is what you call a sub divisional engineer, basically the chap responsible for broadband at the exchange. You can get their contact number from someone at the exchange or from 197. Though most of the times they are reluctant to give out contact nos. Else, you could contact the jto (Junior Telecom Officer), there should be a list of JTOs somewhere on mtnl's website, find your exchange's from the list.

Not yet :/ I've made two complaints, one from 1504 and one online through their website. All they did was call and ask about the problem and then they say 'OK, we understand and we will forward it' and they close the complaint. Pathetic customer service if you ask me! I guess I'll have to go to their exchange on Saturday and talk to someone in person.

yahai toh problem hai MTNL kei..if everything is ok its best BB in India if something goes wrong then its Hell broken loose ...

^^ True that.

Just a quick update, I went over to the exchange yesterday and talked to some person who noted my number down and told me he'll talk to the SD about it (SD wasn't there) and the speed problem got fixed at around 4 PM! 😀 After that the phone line went dead at around 4:30 PM :/ I filed a complaint from my Airtel connection (good thing I didn't get it DC'd) and this morning the line is up but the Internet is down. DSL light is ON but the Internet light is OFF 🙁
SNR and Attenuation values are fine tho. I'm thinking of calling the SD, is that the right thing to do?

----------

I checked the modem log and it says the "Username or password is incorrect" WTH? 😵

I've waited a lot, I think this is happening since yesterday (although I didn't check the logs). Man, I've never had so much problems in one week lol

You know after all that I've gone through 😛, I was just wondering is it just me or any of you guys have faced such problems as well?
If it's me, then WHY ME???? @_@

I had mtnl last in 2006/7 , I think, haven't used it since then. The connection was quite stable from what I remember. Been using mtnl 3g, since last year, good experience so far. But ask anant about his travails with 3g 😛

@ whizkins, you can try dropping in an email at deadsl@bol.net.in mailing on this ID was very effective when i had MTNL for getting speed, login issue's sorted out, do copy the mail to the gm/ceo etc and mention the compliant no's of previously lodged complaints as well. The Network operations centre of MTNL broadband is Kidwai Bhawan, it would do you good to contact some broadband person there and talk to him regarding your problem, you should be able to find the relevant no's on the MTNL website.

Thanks cyberwiz, I'll be sure to remember that. I mailed the GM of my area yesterday and today one guy came up in a hurry and fixed it (it was something on their end, they changed the ports and stuff) after the guy left the connection worked 100% fine. But I get only 60KB/s download speed on my 1mbps plan and the thing is the Data Rate in the modem shows 2Mbps 😛I guess they'll never learn lol. I'll wait a few more days, but I think I'll go back to Craptel, atleast their service is good and there's no downtime 😛
