Krishn,This router DSL-2750U is compatible only with D-Link's DWM-156 USB dongle.I remember this reading on the router's box packing and also in the manual.I don't think there is any harm in upgrading your router. But I don't think your Huawei dongle will work with this router (after upgrade).Do let us know.Thanks,Ashutosh.

I have successfully configured D-Link dsl 2750u with my desktop, both connected with RJ45 & reliance broadband working absolute fine. I am getting low range abt 15/20 ft only so please could u please suggest me either PCI or USB compatible wireless Adapter with model no so i can move router in central passage and get satisfactory range. does 150n is fine or should i look for 300n.Also please guide me do i have to buy another additional 3g USB, if i opt for 3g service in future or this wireless adepter works as 2 in 1.

Thanks.
I had actually contacted the D-Link customer support folks here in India.
They were kind enough to provide me with an binary to upgrade the d-link router the very next day.
The upgrade went through fine and my dongle works fine on 3G with this DSL-2750U.

Requesting all to contact D-Link customer care if you need your any support.

Regards

Dear Ashutosh, ind,

Thanks so much for the info guys. Couple of more questions.

Does it work stable for you? Does the D-Link 3G Dongle work with Reliance, BSNL, Airtel, etc? Where did you buy that dongle from? Also does it switch automatically to 3G Dongle if the main ADSL line goes down?

Thanks so much in advance.

Hello Ashutosh,
I had tried contacting their helpline multiple times, but no response. Can u please upload the binaries and send me link also.
thanks in advance,

I too have D-Link 2750u router and D-Link DWM-156 3G dongle, however, 3G sharing does not work at all for me. I tried updating the firmware for the router and installed the latest firmware available on the website and also updated the firmware for the 3G dongle. 3G sharing was still failing.
That's when I stumbled upon this thread and I called D-Link for support. The support guy promptly mailed me the link for the latest firmware revision for this router. The latest firmware is available at http://www.link-removed.com/file/8b0kw3. I have downloaded the firmware and will update the router and will let you guys know if this works fine.

Finally installed the firmware provided by D-Link support guys and it went through as breeze. Now in the list of dongles I see various revisions of D-Link DWM156 and to my surprise Huawei E392 (2G/3G/4G dongle) listed there. I selected D-Link DWM156 A6 (A6 is the firmware revision that I updated my dongle to), keyed in APN settings and the dialup number and hurray, everything started to work.
It is in fault tolerance mode by default i.e. whenever the router looses DSL connectivity, it switches to 3G and as soon as DSL is restored, it disconnects 3G and shifts to DSL line, which is what I want. Do revert for any further queries on this one.

Thanks for this thread which is quite informative on how to use 3G with D-Link DSL-2750U... I have a question. Does this work similarly with Airtel 4G LTE USB dongle? I'm having harrowing time with BSNL connection in Pune. I already have the DSL-2750U setup at my home with all the LAN connectivity and WiFi connectivity with couple of devices. Apart from not requiring to reconfigure entire setup, I don't want to spend more money on buying new hardware to replace the DSL router.
My plan is to subscribe to 4G LTE by Airtel and plug it into the USB slot after following all the above steps of flashing the firmware. Appreciate if anybody has inputs on using 4G with this router. Honestly, I don't know technical differences between 3G and 4G, and their compatibility with the devices consuming broadband stream, but my hunch / logic is that if I can use 4G dongle in place of 3G dongle with my laptop, it should be somehow replaceable and usable with the DSL routers 3G port as well... 🙂
Thanks in advance for all the help.

No, I don't think any of the current versions of the 2750u firmware support 4g dongles.
TP-Link TL-MR3220 used to support the older Airtel 4g single mode dongle, but the latest multi mode ones (ZTE MF825A) are still not supported.
Edit: If you get another new modem, the Huawei e392, that's supported by TP-Link, so you'd better ask which modem they'll be providing you with.

Thanks Manoj. I found on the internet that 4G is not supported on 2750u firmware. Actually even support for 3G is pathetic. I contacted D-Link support today and fortunately got the latest firmware upgrade in 'test' dated 2nd Jul 2013 (which others too have mentioned). Flashed the DSL router but I could not find the information to be entered as user name, password, the dial up number and APN for Tata Photon Plus that my office has given me. So now I'm on hunt to know which 3G provider should I select for compatible dongle. Talked with Vodafone 'tech support' and he gave me weird answers ranging from ask DLink guys to 'we don't know the hardware inside the dongle'. Phew. 😛issed-off: . Wasn't even able to connect to airtel guys...

Tajender, could you please share the 3G provider with which things worked successfully for you...?
Thanks in advance...
