Hathway Helpline Says :
Now to address your query on PQ of SD channels on a HD STB. The chipsets of the HD STB are far superior in processing terms to that of a SD STB. To receive Full HD on your panel TV, it is always advisable to connect the STB using the HDMI cable. Using the same ensures that the delivery of signal from its inception at the Headend to the TV is Digital. When you connect the same using AV cords the signal has been converted to composite and that will never match digital.

Thank you sir, for taking time out and answering our questions. Maybe i am missing something, but your above quote still does not solve my query 100% , so i will reframe my question.
I have a SD STB - which i have connected to my Full HD LCD TV ( Sony - 32" [Model - CX420] )
Now the SD STB does not have a HDMI port (obviously !! ) so i use the Red-Yellow-White cables , and the output is really really not satisfactory.
The videos are pixelated and its not something that i am happy with. The audio is even worse.
If you would like to see, then I can attach some pictures in the next post.
If i do go for a HD STB ( and then i will obviously use the HDMI cable to connect to my TV ) , will the PQ of SD channels go up drastically ? (YES/NO)
I understand the HD channels( 8 or 9 or what have u ) will show me the perfect full HD picture. I am still worried about SD channels.

Ill explain with an example, when i was using Tata Sky SD and when i switched to Tata Sky HD - THERE WAS NO CHANgE IN THE PQ OF SD CHANNELS
Maybe this was because even thier SD box was using MPEG4 , so it did not upscale when i switched to HD.
The way I understand it, Hathway SD uses MPEG2 , and Hathway HD uses MPEG4 - hopefully what wil l help upscale PQ for SD channels ?

Please help me , sir.

You hit a bullseye!!
Hathway should have upgraded their SD boxes to Mpeg 4 long back...but they made their customer use the old era Mpeg2 boxes! 🙁

5. When are you planning to launch new HD channels? Right now there are only 8 HD channels. I am mainly looking for Star HD channels.

more channels will be available next month.

hello
we all know hathway is planning to launch few more hd channels but this is a bit confusing at first u mentioned of channel addition end of the month and now quote states next month pls clarify this.
and also we would like to know which channels is hathway planning to add in hd (for a complete list pls refer to my reply no 15 in this thread for details) we are eagerly waiting to know which channels and approx launch dates.
this i am sure will help more customers to go for your hd services

I have sent about 5 emails to helpline_executive@hathway.net and I haven't got a reply to any of my emails. I am also asking the same: How many HD channels, which ones and by when? Looks like they themselves don't know about it 🙂

It reminds me of hathway HD launch. There were supposed to launch it by end of May. It took very long time for them to launch HD. During those days, they kept saying end of the month or next month. Now it is happening with HD channels. They are giving the same old reply. End of the month or next month. And there is no clarity on which channels? How many channels and by when.
