Hey fellas, I've been using BEAM since the past few months and apart from a 4 days downtime which they flatly blamed on their need to upgrade their hardware in order to accommodate their ever increasing customer base in our area, I'm honestly satisfied with their connection. I've been lurking around this sub forum for almost a week and unsurprisingly, endless posts about their abysmal customer service seems to be stinking up the place. I agree with the most part of it cuz my interaction with them hasn't been any pleasant either but they DO take care of things even it takes a cool 24 hrs. If you ask me, I'd rather wait 24hrs for a slower response and see some reasonable rates than having top shelf customer service with rip off prices like other ISPs. Few things have been on my mind since start but I've got mixed responses from the guys@BEAM, so I thought you guys might have a better idea. * My connection got capped just once but unlike their promised unlimited uploads, even my upload speed was reduced, is this how it is or am I missing something ? * I use torrents and my uploads are usually thrice the downloads (ie) lets say for every 10GB d/l, I u/l around 30-40 GB if not more. Has anyone faced any unusual upload speed caps before reaching FUP lmits ? * Anyone using their 20Mbps connection ? * In the usage statement page via BEAM portal, does the total data consumption show just downloads ? Or is it D/L + U/L ? * After applying a cap they usually bill the extra usage which can be paid via the login page, I'm under the belief that its an optional payment if you want the cap reset before the end of the current month. But has anyone faced any problems with the extra usage bills mounting up as dues when you want to renew your subscription monthly, biannually or annually ?

Once you cross your FUP, the upload speeds get reduced too. So if you are on a 10Mbps line and you cross your FUP limit your download is 2Mbps and Upload is 4Mbps.The portal page shows the Upload too. Ignore it as uploads aren't counted by Beam.Theres an option called FUP reset in the portal page which is on a pro-rata basis. Why would there be mounting dues when if its an unlimited plan ? Even the limited plans have a cut-off to prevent these exorbitant bills.Btw, whats your OS ? And do you use a router ?

It happened with TATA, the FUP was crossed once and they overcharged us by ₹.700 when we had to recharge our annual subscription. My upload after FUP is 2Mb as well, thats the reason I asked.

I use Linux Ubuntu and this router

i get uploads intune of 7Mbps and in good torrents i get 1MBPS upload. Even am saying from the first day . .Even though their CC is shit .. they do provide Fast internet speeds @ low rate.I had 99% uptime till last 5~6 months 🙂

I have also had good experience with Beam initially there were some hic-ups but for the past 4-5 months I say 99% uptime and get the promised speed all the time.

I have never heard any ISP whose internet connection drops on power failure 🙂 There is no UPS for their internet and customer support closes the tickets without any working.....that is the saddest part. It reminds me of Nokia customer service handled by HCL who ask the customers to collect phones without any solved problems ... The problem i think is that there is no sueing culture in India like USA. Once they find that you lose money for willingly doing mistakes, i bet there would be improvement.

^^Get across to the headoffice or your local Beam office to solve it. I had to do it that way. The battery backup supposedly is for 4 hours

what do you mean ?

what do you mean ?

Theres his box called CP box to which the fiber comes into from the road. From the box 6 to 7 connections are given out. The CP box has a backup battery which is connected to a power supply. Incase of a power cut, the backup battery provide power to the CP box for 4 hours. But the backup batteries are faulty and a good number of users complain of lack of internet when theres a power cut in their area.

I was thinking the same but the box in our vicinity seems to be holding up, at least for now.
