MTNL 3G netwrok in Thakur Village, Kandivali (East)

Hello folks,I am interested to get MTNL's 3G data card as their 3G 4500 prepaid plan looks pretty impressive to me, also I have been quite satisfied with their broadband connection service which I have been using since last 3 years so far. But then I got to know one of my friends (who stays at Jogeshwari) horrible experience with MTNL's 3G network, so he suggested me to first check the MTNL's 3G network in my area through local exchaange. So I went to Samta Nagar telephone exchange to speak to divisional engineer regarding the network, the security guys told me to see one lady officer who might help me with the problem. The lady officer had no clue regarding the 3G network coverage as she handles only landline operation, after dialing some numbers to get things clear she told me to give my address and contact details which she would hand over to concerned person who handles 3G matter in the region. Hence, I want to know if there are members out here from kandivali region (Thakur Village to be more specific) who have or had been using MTNL 3G data card, who can share their experience here with me. Get a MTNL sim, check the network with default tariff.If you are satisfied with the network coverage, eRecharge 🙂

I have been using mtnl 3g on data card for a few months now...i live in isthakur village and it has been a good experience so far.The speeds are good network is good..i get a download speed of 180kbps avg on good seeded torrents...on direct download if website is giving good speed than I get avg of above 200kbps...let me know if you want to know anything else

128KB/s=1024Kbps=1Mbps. Is your speed 180KB/s or 180Kbps? if its the later case then the avg speed you have is 0.25Mbps...which is very low for 3G. Please recheck and inform.

He probably meant 180 kBps.

Thank you sir, for your kind review about mtnl 3G network, now I can go ahead with it and get one for myself. Few days before I had conversation with mtnl guy who has been working on upgrading mtnl's newtork across this specific region he told me that, besides main network tower at Samta Nagar Tel. exchange Thakur College (junior one) is the hub of all network towers (including all mobile companies) in the region which covers whole Thakur Village as well as Singh Estate The network upgradation work is still going as he mentioned that 3G network has less effective coverage radius than that of GSM, and if one goes beyond that coverage then might wont be able to enjoy the maximum speed, to overcome this problem mtnl is trying to put on more number of network towers across the whole Mumbai region for better 3G network coverage which could be updated in future without much difficulty. I am sure, me being staying just few meters away from Thakur College wont face any problem while using their service. BTW, my neighbour is using Reliance netconnect and he gets steady transfer rate of around 250 kB/s on torrents !!!!!! wonder if there is any huge speed difference between wireless 1X and 3G technology.

Afaik 1X supports a max of 144 kbps (yes, kilobits per sec) around 15 kBps. So, yes, the difference is huge.
