Indeed. The present rates provided to farmers is way less and further it will remove the middlemen and the so called mafia. The competition between the biggies should lead to reduction in prices.

Atleast the Govt is expecting to control inflation this way 🙂

To rid of small mafia, government let big corporate mafia come.Very nice policy.

The hke in prices of vegetables and fruits at present can mostly be attributed to this mafia. Its in no way small. The common man faces the pinch of these things the most...

Goverment know this thing happen because of this mafia but not able to do anything. what do you think goverment could do in case of Wal Mart and others?

My question is, why this foreign company need 51% FDI investment? Ans. to get control of company or Join venture. But why they want to control of join venture?

what it needs is reform in local body in procurement , distribution system currently in place and even making the middle man a registered operators. not hand over entire operation to prvt sector

Retail investments are huge and obviously someone risking it will definitely wants control . Further these companies cant break-even soon, its a long process.

Hence the 51%

From what I heard from my friend who lives in the agriculture hub, it cant be done bcos of the involvement of local politicians/Goondas with this mafia.

same goes to our politics , shall we hand over our govt to china ? they seem to rock the world with excellent GDP , etc etc... (no offence against you moin..)

It just shows our incompetence to make an effort to reform ..

Cant help but this is the line of thinking of the Govt 🙁

Anyways dictatorship/aristocracy has its own benefits as in things can be done faster 🙂

already what Monsanto did to our farmers , plants and how they made farmers dependent is an excellent example what foreign powers / corps will do to reap profit. Do see RT.com documentary "DYING IN ABUNDANCE"

Do you think Wal-Mart offer them higher Price?

Actually Reliance retail is buying directly from the farmers... They are giving farmers better price than the Mandis even though Reliance has a reputation of stretching you to the limit on price... & Reliance is making a healthy profit too... So I do think MNCs can pay a fair price to the farmers & still make a good profit while selling at a lower price... Our local Sion Reliance fresh sells veggies & fruits at a much lower rate than the vendors... Basically our Mandi system is screwed up & a major reason behind our high inflation numbers... Unfortunately most Mandis are run my politically influential ppl so they are never questioned about their practices... I remember the sad but funny story of when a few years ago Onion prices reached an all time high but numerous Onion farmers were committing suicide... This is even though most of them had a decent crop but still they could not repay their loans...
