I'm am finally back and Mumbai (home sweet home!) and wish to buy a kindle keyboard Wi-Fi. Getting it shipped to my other home in Mangalore would have been a nightmare in tracking the shipment.

The first choice was Amazon USA. They ship a Kindle Keyboard (non sponsored version) to India now. Unfortunately the don't have this product in stock, neither they can let me know when it would be available.

So out goes Amazon. The cheaper sponsored (Ad) version which is in stock doesn't ship internationally. So there goes my chance of getting it off amazon.

Next choice was 20North which a few people claim are good. They promised a 2-3 week delivery period. But with so much negative feedback over various internet forums is making me skeptical of using them.

3rd choice is Indiaplaza, who buy the sponsored version in the US and ship it across. It costs a lot less than directly buying off amazon. Kindle Keyboard Wifi (Sponsored) | Buy E Book Reader | Indiaplaza

There is no mention of whether customs duties are included in the pricing. A clarification asked from indiaplaza via their customer ticket didn't elicit any response either. So much for customer support!

I was also able to locate the sponsored version off ebay india.
Amazon Kindle Keyboard e-Reader with Wifi, 6 inch Display | eBay

An online mail to the seller confirmed that no customs duties are added on. The item will be shipped from Delhi in 3-4 days.

Now my moot question is this.... How reliable is Ebay Paisapay? The seller is reputed to be an Ebay Powerseller and has a 99.6% positive feedback.

I am always skeptical using these Indian Ecommerce Websites (flipkart has been fabulous, firstandsecond not so great, Indiaplaza delayed a few books I order a year back but completed the order..)

This would be my first purchase on Ebay India. The sob stories about Ebay India doing the rounds on mouthshut etc make me cringe.. I don't want to end up either paying to a scamster or getting a damaged product. Ebay apparently is notorious for doing such things.

Since the amount involved isn't loose change hence seeking feedback.

Another alternate a friend suggested is to visit local shops in Heera Panna, Tardeo, Mumbai to purchase it from a grey market store. The prices would be same as that of Amazon USA including the customs duties etc. But I would have my product immediately.

Please help me decide. Would have loved getting it from amazon directly but they are out of stock for this particular model. Apparently more expensive ones are available!

I have no friends who are coming in from the US, nor would I like to trouble family members to get it for me. So that option is out of the window.

My primary usage of the Kindle would be to consume Mobi format files with the ocassional PDF's thrown in. A tablet wouldn't serve my purpose, since I would need the eInk Display for higher readability.

do not trust mouthshut for anything. 🙂

Ebay India, if the guy is shipping from India itself and has good reviews.

Personally, I'd prefer buying from the grey market because: a. I'd get to touch the actual product before buying and b. instant gratification (get the product immediately after paying)

I will visit the HP market along with a friend tommorrow and see if I can get one. If the pricing is right might end up buying there.Alfa in Vile Parle has the Kindle Keyboard 3G for 13K, so if its not available in HP. Will post after I go there tommorrow.

Hi,

I work for Indiaplaza & happen to own a Kindle too. Ping me sometime for an exclusive deal

I didn't read your lengthy post - sorry about that, but going by your title, I will suggest to avoid IndiaPlaza, and order your stuff through eBay. There is a seller called booyahchicago who is an authorised reseller. My previous experiences suggest that he delivers the product in 15 days time. There are other resellers who I won't recommend.

Thanks for all the clarifications. I am not going to go the indiaplaza route.. Will check up the gray market stores in Heera Panna and see how things go.If things don't work out, I might place an order on Amazon USA (they deliver in 3-4 days) when the Kindle Keyboard Wifi is restocked. Wont mind spending a bit extra for peace of mind. Can't trust the local resellers (no offense to anyone). Too many horror stories abound on ecommerce websites in india (flipkart being the exclusion for offering COD).Will keep the thread updated soon.

So did you receive your Kindle from Indiaplaza?I'm planning to buy one from there but after having bad experiences with them myself I wanted to see if there are any issues with this item.
