B!tch have started to show her true colour. Today morning i was pissed off to see my bus fair going up from Rs.8 to Rs.13.

I have voted for her...but cursing myself now...all the prices are increasing with out increase in our salary or the corporate just give very little increment...

Such a huge increase? However, prior to this, Chennai had the lowest bus fares in the entire country.

More Over in India liquors prices are very high when compared to other states....If Govt of TamilNadu is loosing its revenue from Bus, Milk & Electricity but they are gaining a lot from Tasmac and even their employees too...

W.r.t to buses - I doubt whether services will improve .. Otherwise price-wise it is fair considering diesel hike/employee salaries etc to be revised... People having to travel on foot-board (by force not by choice) ... Having to wait for 1/2 hr to get even that chance.... All this needs to be improved to justify the above...

Electricity - Price to go up by 70-110% :O ....

Before

0-50 units 0.75
51-100 units 0.85
101-200 units 1.50
201-600 units 2.20
Above 600 units 4.05

After

0-200 units 2.00
201-500 units 3.50
Above 501 units 5.75

4th Nov : Petrol hike: Jaya slams Centre, demands rollback

17th Nov : Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said the hikes were 'unavoidable' as state public sector units were on the verge of collapse.

Steep hike in bus fares, milk prices in TN - southindia - Tamil Nadu - ibnlive

As regards the dairy sector, the price of toned milk per litre would be revised from Rs. 17.75 to Rs.24. The last increase was made in September 2009. The procurement price of milk paid to dairy farmers would go up from Rs.18 to Rs. 20 per litre for cow milk and from Rs. 26 to Rs. 28 for buffalo milk.
This is a very good move. People who live in city don't understand how difficult it is to produce milk [No offense]. Cattle food rate increased like petrol price but milk price didn't increase. We stopped selling milk due to the losses.

I am surprised this issue is raised now, because some routes had implemented the extra rates because of detour long ago.

The Hindu : Cities / Chennai : MTC hikes fares due to Metro diversions

Here’s another shocker from the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC). After increasing bus ticket fares last November, MTC is looking at another revision in fares. This time, diversions due to ongoing Metro Rail work are to blame, an official says.

Irked commuters ask why they should pay an extra fare just because the MTC bus is taking a detour.

Commuters claim that ticket fares have increased from anywhere between Rs. 1 and Rs. 5 based on whether the bus is ordinary, deluxe or AC Volvo. “There is an increase of fare at every stage, which is typically 1.5 kilometres. Due to Metro Rail work, the number of stages has increased

He said the fare would be high only one way. “Many commuters keep questioning the conductors and there have been some problems. The fare is based on kilometres, so if the bus travels an additional kilometre, the fare will also increase,” he said.

Personally, I feel more bad about the different rates for different types of buses. Over a period of time, the buses were classified as ordinary, limited stop service, express, deluxe etc & factors like better seats, less stops etc were used as yardsticks to have a higher classification of a bus type and an increased fare. Now all buses are almost the same in terms of comfort, number of stops etc, still they have retained 3 classifications and rates.

Atleast 1 thing i liked about DMK is that they have not increased the prices....and still they did a good job....
