Hi all,I am new to this forum. I'd like to know what is the fastest speed available on data cards? Also, I am confused with 3g data card and 3g USB modem. What is the difference?Anyhow, I'd like to know the fastest available speed on data cards.Any help would be appreciated.Thanks.

i would start with stating the obvious. speed and performance would depend from one area to another. in fact one room to another in your house. and it would also vary at different times of the day. fact is that wireless internet would depend upon the network congestion in your area and the proximity of your place from the towers. companies highlight speeds ranging up to 21mbps in india i think. in reality, you are likely to get much slower speeds.

Thanks.Who advertises 21Mbps? And what's the slower speed that you get? Could you give me an approximation? Which is the most reliable connection that I could go for?

you missed the most important part. no one can tell you which service would work better for you at your place. wireless internet services do not deliver a constant experience.

Thanks.

Tata DOCOMO advertises its high speed as 21.1mbps

And 3G data card and 3G USB modem are the same. The fastest speed i experienced live is 7mbps on vodafone 3G but i was right next to a tower.

As admin said . .3G varies with place to place.

The best bet would be to get a demo done at your place. iF you get good speed . .take it

I did get the point. I am just looking for suggestions on what to buy. I know most of the ads are just promises. Here I am looking for opinions of the real users. There always are some providers better than the others. I am looking for THOSE NAMES.
Thanks.

Thanks a lot.

Already all forum members have told you no one guarantee what speed you will get at any given time at any corner of your house as it is a random outcome with no of users and network connectivity.

And not just static connection- you are asking for a fast connection while travelling....you are asking the moon.

As some one who is only using wireless as a primary internet connection ,I can tell you Airtel,Vodafone ,Aircel 3G GSM are good in south.( I have used less in Bangalore but more in Hyderabad and chennai).I have atleast two 3G sims with data pack activated any given time.

Avoid propreitory modem CDMA USB broadband services like Reliance Netconnect,Tata Photon and MTS.

Buy a unlocked GSM 3G data card (around Rs 1700)(atleast 7.2 mbps) and try out Airtel ,Vodafone,Aircel etc one by one with a prepaid sim, activate 3G and recharge small data pack and check speed.

Do not buy locked 7.2 mbps data card from Airtel or vodafone .

Since street shops do not sell unlocked data card, try to buy from ebay Huawei E173 or E175o ( 7.2 mbps card)

Avoid Micromax (though they are ok ,Huawei gives the maximum options to connect with out depending on single software)
You should be willing to spend Rs 1200-1500 for 10 GB 3 G data per month. 2GB starts @ rs 500-700.:Boy Thumb Up:

3 G is only a promise not a guarantee....

what you should not do : (we have learnt bitterly in the last 2 years of experimenting wireless usb broad band)
1. Do not buy Post Paid connection of any provider say CDMA (Reliance Netconnect,Tata Photon)
2.Avoid CDMA operators mentioned above as you can not use the propreitory data card with other operator sim
3.Do not buy locked GSM data card from BSNL,Airtel,Aircel Voda shop (even with prepaid sim+data pack:smiley-ashamed005🙂 before checking with us /web -how to unlock it.!

ok. i thought cdma options had free roaming but 3G does not. 😕
You are some what correct-
I have used Tata photon and Reliance Netconnect all over India in the past with out any extra roaming charge
when it comes to GSM 3G not all operators give free roaming.
BSNL and MTNL offer all India data free roaming.
I have had issues when Voda TN sim+data pack some does not work in A.P even though it works most of the time in roaming with out charge.
Airtel gives free roaming I think .I have not been charged while using in other states.

Docomo 3G launched in Hyderabad yet?
I saw last week Docomo shops (now re branded DOCOMO no more Tata Indicom brand ) had ZTE MF631 (7.2 mbps card) and they were not selling to public yet as waiting for the launch of 3G. I was interested in ZTE MF691 21 mbps data card.

airtel 3g definitely does not offer free roaming 😀
Could be true.
I always use local 3G sim +data pack one for Chennai and another for Hyderabad.( I stay long periods in both cities )

while travelling by train say from chennai to Hyderabad... till I sleep I use the origin sim for browsing .Airtel chennai sim was working in Nellore with out debiting I think.. Iam not sure.

same question, when will docomo launch 3g services @ ap circle? ICRA with aircel?

Usually 3G data cards offer speed upto 3.1 Mbps but it also depends on the area where you live. While traveling you can use BSNL EVDO data card as it offers best speed as compared to others.
