For CPU thing, while OS is booting press the Pause button on your Keyboard, it should halt booting process now leave the PC in that state, if it does not reboot from there then problem is with either RAM/Mobo or CPU. Because in this condition none of these components are being used ...

Ok, I just tried this step, I stopped the booting process by pressing the pause button and waited for 15 good minutes, but the pc did not continue with the booting and just stayed with that screen only. The screen had American Megatrends written on it. And some info as given below.
AMIBIOS (C) 2006
BIOS Date - 07/31/2008
CPU frequency 2.60 GHz
RAM frequency 667
Press DEL ro run SEtup
Press F12 for BIOS post flash
Press F9 for BBS popup

Initialising USB controllers..Done....
1016 MB ok + 8 MB share memory.....

I am using 1 GB DDR2 Dynet brand RAM, but is a good enough as per some people I have asked.

So what do I do now? Thanks.

Remove your heat sink and check if dust has blocked it completely. You can also disable or increase the shutdown/restart temp for the cpu but since its new, i don't think you should.

Ok, guys, I have just got my pc back from a hardware guy and he has changed the power supply and put a new one. Odyssey 450 Watts. Fingers crossed. He says that all the other components are ok. Thanks for the help from all of you.

Bad new guys, the pc again does not boot or if does then it restarts for now reason. The same problem continues. The hardware guy has just checked the pc again and said that the cpu is gone. He says that there is a power fluctuation in my house. I do not think so. But anyway I now need a new cpu and a device to protect my pc. I think it is called a stabilizer or an inverter, not sure. There has never been a power porblem in my house as far as I am aware. Please do help and also suggest me a good brand for the same with price if possible. This is really driving me nuts. Time and money both being totally wasted. Thanks.

As you said that the pc sometimes boots & then restarts, if the pc sometimes boots then your cpu is fine, go to some other repair guy, the cheap psu odyssey could be the problem or the ram get a good brand psu, it is the most important component of your pc as it can damage all other components , this is a good cheap psu TheITWares - One Stop for all Gizmos!FSP Saga II 400W Power Supply - TheITWares , or get corsair cx430 which costs few hundred more but corsair has excellent after sales service.

don't go for corsair. they have any service center only in bangalore as far as i knw. so for mumbai/pune customers replacements take 15-25 days. go with seasonic. i m using it for quite sometime now. and get a stabiliser. it will solve ur problem of voltage fluctuations if any.if u r pc boots up then there is nothing wrong with ur cpu. tht tech guy is trying to fool u. change him 1st !!

How do you know they only have service center in bangalore? , corsair service is handled by kaizen & they have centers everywhere and are very good Kaizen Infoserve Private Limited. , as soon as you submit your corsair product for RMA replacement is usually sent same day by courier from bangalore by bluedart

yes i knw kaizen does it. i have talked to the itwares guy(Rahul) long time bck when i was looking for a psu. he told me replacements take a long time. i have spoken to kaizen too(when i went to get my D-Link router repaired) . they said they don't do replacements on the spot. its sent to bangalore. i have personally seen ppl argue at lamington road office of kaizen for late replacements. even dlink made me w8 for 20 days for replacement which was supposed to coem from banglore by courier.

D-Link & corsair are two different companies, just because kaizen does RMA for both doesnt mean that both take the same time to replace, itwares probably wanted to sell you some other psu, i have experience with corsair RMA thats why i am posting this, i never said they do replacement on the spot they do it in 2-3 days & they have the best service in India.

----------

Excellent Corsair RMA service (few points to note)

i specifically said ppl were arguing abt corsair replacements. i have no personal issues with corsair.

----------

in any case i wudn't buy cx430. there are too many issues with it. lot of ppl have complained. just google it.

and fwiw corsair sells(or used to sell) many psu's that were manufactured by seasonic. they just rebadged them.!! dats how corsair psu's came to be known as reliable. the cx430 was one of the few that corsair manufactured themselves !!!

They have released a upgraded version which is better, i suggested cx430 because it is value for money since he probably wont want to spend too much on a psu after using local brands , about people arguing about corsair replacements , there are lot more people arguing about replacements from other brands than about corsair .You will have lot less trouble during RMA from corsair than with any other brand in India.

Hi Friends,

sorry to reply after a long gap. Here is the latest situation.

I have installed a new SMPS Odyssey 450 Watts, a new CPU Dual Core 3.0 GHz. New UPS brand - PowerSafe. Now the proble is still there. It still restarts itself for no real reason, so what do you think I should do? I have somehow managed to install Ubuntu 10.4 LTS on it and it is the only OS on my hard drive at the moment. I have been left very frustrated due to this problem and I have already spent a fortune on correction. I have bought new CPU (Rs. 3200), SMPS (Rs. 600) and UPS (Rs. 1800). I am too scared to use a pc now. Here is what I am getting as output to the last command in a terminal.

I already told you the CPU was fine, then why did you buy another CPU , Go to a different PC repair guy and get your Ram & mother board checked , your PSU could still be the problem , you should get the PSU i suggested or you will have more issues in future

This is what I got on my screen after the pc restarted itself just a few moments ago.

Warning ! over clock fail.
Press DEL to run setup.
Press F2 to load default values and continue.

Can you please suggest something as I have pressed F2 and loaded the defaults values a few times earlier but the pc continues to restart itself for no reason at all. Thanks.
