I am using the Huawei umg1831 3g modem and am on the MTNL network, roaming in Pune. I was getting poor connectivity and frequent disconnections in my area, so I bought a 3g antenna for the modem. Now, is there any way to check to what extent the connectivity/signal strength has improved? I cant rely only on download speeds since those tended to fluctuate (before the antenna) from very good to pathetic. I would like to measure how much the signal/network has improved with the antenna. How do I do this? I am using Windows 7 and T-mobile webconnect/mdma.

I thought this would be relatively simple. Doesn't anyone know how to do this?

u can buy 5 meter usb cable if possible then buy 10 meter and put ur modem at where is signal better ( top ). i was same problem and now after this i got always 3 mbps while before 1mbps

Very difficult to quantify the gain of the antenna.!Measured only at receiving end , and communication receivers have special meters to show the signal strength !Only the signal bars ( if seen in modem menu ) give you the improvement More bars better signal. You can check the distance where connectivity fails.Test in a straight line away from the Antenna in same direction. ( Vertical figure 0) equal signal at same distance all round.Or keeping the antenna parallel to the ground ( if extension unit ) to get best signals at fixed location ( farthest point ) .180 degrees apart max ( radiation figure of 8 ) Locating the Antenna at a higher height also improves signals.
